The press are going mad but we won't pay Adebayor anywhere near his full wages and fundamentally I can't really get behind the idea of City subsidising his wages by £100k a week to play for spurs despite the media hype at the minute...

The idea is to get him off our wage bill not pay his wages while nhe scores goals for a competitor!

Spurs will pay City a fee for the loan, this fee will be then used by City to subsidise his wages. It's ludicrous to suggest that City will pay £100k a week out of their own pocket to strengthen one of their rivals.

City will probably also put a clause in the loan agreement prohibiting Adebayor to play against them. The loan fee has got be substantial considering that the difference between Spurs's wage cap (70k/week) and Ade's reported wage (170k) is an astonishing 5 million pounds/ year.

I've seen numerous reports Delta ranging from £120k up to £170k. The sheep are obviously going to believe the higher estimates.

As I understand it Delta, players loaned to other teams in the same league are automatically prohibited from playing against their parent club due to the potential conflict of interest that would arise - nowt to do with any clauses in the loan deal. And as to his actual wages, nobody really knows, but as with all of our players, the figure quoted when he signed for us (£120k per week) is significantly lower than the price used to pillory us in the press when we have "Difficulty offloading our overpaid mercenaries".

Please, Harry, please take him. And good luck against the rags, it must be said.

Bluedub - That's why I think the loan is not as close as we're being lead to believe. There's definite interest but City won't pay to strengthen Spurs, and we won't shatter our wage structure for Adebayor. That to me suggests we'll have this dragged out for a while longer yet

Agreed Phartman, I believe this one is going right to the wire.

Btw Phartman what do you reckon about Adebayor possibly going to Spurs? Do you believe he has what it takes to prove the answer to your striker problem?

Yes and no. Although he's better then any of our current strikers I'm not under any illusions Ade will transform us into title challenegers becasue he blows a bit too hot and cold...but I suppose the whole point of transfers is to improve your team and he'd do that. He's has a similar goal scoring record to Pav and Defoe AND can link with VDV (in the same way that Crouch does at least), where as at the moment it's one or the other. So although we'd love a Falcao or a Llorente we'll just have to settle, and you never know it could be the difference between 5th and 4th at the end of the season...hypothetically assuming either (or both) of our boards are prepared to swallow their pride a little
