Mancio Underlines His Control Over Captaincy

From double subbing Robinho to stripping Carlos Tévez of the City captaincy. Roberto Mancini will not be moved...

The dapper City gaffer came to England with a hardline reputation and has repeatedly demonstrated his leadership in his dealings with big name players. Yesterday he confirmed that Tévez will no longer wear the City captains armband.

Tévez remains transfer listed at his own request and Mancio's pubic commitment to the brilliant Vincent Kompany will be met with unanimous approval across Planet Blue:

'Carlos wanted to leave for family reasons. I respected his opinion but Carlos is still here because we didn't find a solution.

'I decided in the summer that Vinnie is the captain.'

Tévez will start for City at home to Wigan today. Historically he takes on any form of percieved setback with some furious play. Mancio appeared to throw down a footballing gauntlet:

'He's a fantastic player for us, someone who can score 20 goals a season.'

The right decision. Especially impressed by the way the transfer of teh captaincy was handled - masterstroke in engineering the change whilst the media wsa foaming at the mouth over Garry Cook. On any other slow football 'news' day I could see this being seized upon and exploited by the journos under a classic, pulitzer prize winning "Shock" headline about Tevez being "stipped" of the captaincy when in fact he had abrogated any responsibilty towards the post through his own actions. But why let the truth spoil a good story?
