'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Edin Džeko: I Am Much Stronger

Powerful City and Bosnia-Herzegovina centre forward Edin Džeko has spoken exclusively with th'official site of his resurgent form and settling in at MCFC...

The giant 25 year old Sarajevan has now hit 13 goals in 26 league and cup City appearances and without a doubt would feature prominently in any top European squad.

Džeko had a slow start in sky blue but has grown in stature and confidence, looking sharper in all aspects of his game. He reckons that's down to a solid pre-season.

'I'd said previously that I needed a pre-season to play better and to feel better and now I feel much stronger and know my team mates better. Everything feels much easier for me at the moment.'

In point of fact, Džeko left Wolfsburg for Manchester during the German winter break and that clearly affected his exposure to the mid season tempo of Premier League football:

'When I first came here I wasn't fit. Sometimes I was tired and I didn't play the way that I can play...I scored against Notts County and I am happy that I helped my team win something after 35 years.

'The past six months were bad for me but I can say I learnt from my mistakes and after pre-season I feel much better. I didn't feel pressure because I know what I am capable of.'

When quizzed over vying for a City start alongside Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tévez and Sergio Agüero, the intelligent and calmly spoken attacker is philospohical:

'In every big team you have a big concurrence like that. It's football.'

He's the best player of his "type" (the tall but talented centre forward) in the world now, I rate him even above fellow goal machines Ibrahimovic and Mario Gomez. A simply sublime player, I'm glad the club AND fans (who always got behind him even when he didn't settle in instantly) kept supporting him.
