Indeed, City banned direct talk of the subject at Mancini's pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Blackburn on Saturday.

The Argentine striker was suspended by the club on Thursday having allegedly refused to come on against Bayern Munich in their 2-0 Champions League defeat earlier in the week.

Mancini has been applauded for his handling of the situation by City's title and local rivals United, with boss Sir Alex Ferguson claiming the Italian showed his strength as a manager.
