Important Month For City, Spurs & United

As this article is being written Manchester City sit pretty at the top of the Premier League table, three points ahead of Tottenham and Manchester United.

No one will win the league in January, nevertheless this months results are going to make the difference in respect of who may, or may not be crowned champions.

January fixtures

Manchester City:

Wigan (A) - Monday 16
Tottenham (H) - Sunday 22
Everton (A) - Tuesday 31

Tottenham:

Wolves (H) - Saturday 14
Man City (A) - Sunday 22
Wigan (H) - Tuesday 31

Manchester United:

Bolton (H) - Saturday 14
Arsenal (A) - Sunday 22
Stoke (H) - Tuesday 31

Predictions

I'm hopeful City will pick up at least seven points, Spurs will more than likely do something similar. Meanwhile, United will probably piss everyone off and get maximum points.

The next couple of weeks are going to be nail-biters (gulp).

hopefully some North London payback for the 13-2 aggregate that got dished out in August. A man's gotta dream

It,s certainly getting interesting now lads! anyone got any spare finger nails! lol

I think Feb/march is more important for Utd/Spurs than January is for us. My guess is that come the end of January, things will be as they were. But I do think we have the beating of Spurs, simply because we have the beating of any team that tries to attack us. And Spurs won't be able to control themselves. The Etihad is a fortress, no points dropped in the league.
rojo2010
As a Spurs fam new to your site, I have to agree with the assessment. On your day you can beat anyone - and beat them comprehensively as you have done to us and United - but you do seem to have wobbled a little of late. I don´t think we will be as naive as we were at home when we went all out and got stuffed good and proper - I think a draw would be a good result all round. United however might struggle away to the Gooners. But as Big Red Nose says, The Prem isn´t won in January - but it can be lost.
Graeme in Spain
It can't really be lost for us though Graeme because worst case scenario is we're 6 points behind come the end of Jan. With another 15 fixtures to play after that that gap can be quite quickly closed as Spurs have shown us in the first half of the season.
Bluedub
If Spurs are within 3-5pts of City/United after February they have a massive chance, their run-in is easy. But they have six or so very hard fixtures in the next couple of months. Spurs are well in the hunt but have only faced one team in the top six in their last thirteen fixtures, while City have played five top six teams in the same timespan and are still top. Then again, we will struggle in fixtures like Everton away and Stoke away, they are always tough fixtures for us.
StuMCFC
Good luck to all 3 teams - but you lot know Utd will be the winners come end of the season :)
niteworlok
you might win the "Senior Cup" NW. LOL!
fifthcolumnblue
Will one side pull away? What a time it would be to do it. The time for full on form is March.
Johnny Baguette
maybe FCB - with a combined age of over 500 hahaha - but we always pull strong after Jan - where other teams fall by the wayside :)
niteworlok
No you don't NW, you normally stay as you are in terms of points per game. Quick look through the records will show you that.
Bluedub
Ah yes, the good old "coming good in the 2nd half of the season" card. P2 W0 D0 L2.
rojo2010
Ah for the good old days when the mighty salfordians actually had a few decent relatively young players and could reliably say that they'd carry on their form into the second half of the season. LOL. C'mon NW, most of the reds I know have never felt less confident. Who knows, eh? Scholesw for the golden boot anyone? PMSL!
fifthcolumnblue
rojo - BD - FCB - recent years SHOW that Utd do come good in the last few months - and never start a season well. Looking at previous years this is our best start to a season - and just how many EPL titles have City won???

None is the answer - cos Utd have just about won most of them!!!! So tell me - how can you say we dont come good???
niteworlok
Because if you look at the facts NW ( Statto.com ) you will see that U*d don't accumulate more points in the second half of seasons, they normally accumulate the same from the first 19 as the second 19. The myth that you start slow and come good is Fergie created and media perpetuated. The truth is while U*d usually stay the course others don't and that is what has seen you win most of your PL titles. But why let the truthget in the way of a Fergie created myth eh?
Bluedub
Being a decent start to this season then - us getting the same kinda points in the 2nd half while you lot fall away will mean we come good at the end of the season....
