Lescott Heads For Wembley To Face Holland

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott has been called up to the England squad as a replacement for the injured Glen Johnson...

Lescott has been in sensational form for City this season and he'll join the five Blues already with Stuart Pearce's squad, Gareth Barry, Adam Johnson, Jimmy Milner, Micah Richards and Joe Hart.

England versus Holland kicks off at 20h00 GMT tomorrow night.

not picking him in the first place was pure stupidity in my opinion, it is all very well for Pearce to claim he wouldnt learn anything from picking several players but surely Lescott wasnt in that group, as he is hardly a settled international and certainly in the absence of Terry and Rio, it seems sensible to start with the next best, which may well be Cahill and Lescott. we know that Smalling and jones can play together from United and the U-21s, but we need to look at what is beyond the old guard of players and surely based on form and pecking order, Lescott is as good a left sided CB as we have in this country

Nice of you to say so Ox, and I share your opinion on lescott's abilities. Unfortunately, most people's opinions of lescott are that he's simply not good enough, despite being part of the meanest defence in the PL last season, and the current meanest in the league this season. JL has been in outstanding form for City, and has performed well when called upon for England, so I guess it's because Joleen is not a media darling, unlike the "New Duncan Edwards" and his mate over at the swamp. IMO, John terry shouldn't be pulling on an England shirt until after his court case, and Wio Turdinand is past his sell by date and beginning to stink the place out. Which leaves Lescott and Cahill (about whom I have my doubts!) as the relatively senior pros in the squad. Pity ledley has knees of glass, as he'd be first choice if fit.

Yep, Lescott deserves a spot as left sided CB. Hope he gets a run.
