Disappointing Draw at the Deva

Disappointing Draw at the Deva

CCFC Reserves 1 - 1 MCFC Reserves

Gregor Rioch took charge of his first reserve game and will feel disappointed with the result as Chester reserves were thumped four nil by Accrington Stanley reserves last week.
City started brightly and deservedly took the lead on seven minutes when Czech youngster Vladimer Weiss put a lovely ball through for geordie John Campbell to run onto, but he saw his shot well saved by Phil Palethorpe in the Chester goal but Ashley Grimes was alert and picked up the rebound and danced round the two defenders to put the ball into the roof of the net.
Ten minutes later we saw a real handbags scuffle which was very suprising to see the referee only brandish yellow cards; one to Matthew Brown, city's signing from Tranmere and three yellows to Chester players, including Chester's Manchester born Jermaine McSporran.
Within a minute Chester were level when McSporran was allowed to cross from the right and Mark Cadwallader sent a deep header to the far post which keeper Lawrence Matthewson clearly thought was going wide as he made a late vain effort to save it, but ultimately failed.
Palethorpe had to be at his best ten minutes before the break as he tipped over a strong Weiss effort.
The second half saw a couple of chances for either side, but neither keeper was really tested.
