'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Richards - England's Loss Is City's Gain

Roy Hodgson made the Euro squad decision to favour some dreadful Liverpool players and place his faith in a failed golden generation of thirty somethings...

His is a quintessentially boring squad desperately short on pace and power that will undoubtedly struggle this summer. Pace and power are two attributes that City's omitted Micah Richards possesses in abundance.

Champion Micah's stock continues to rise. After a brilliant season in sky blue whereby his positional sense and savvy continued to develop, he only missed out on the run-in due to injury and Pablo Zabaleta's barnstorming form. Yet the vastly experienced, genial 25 year old MCFC Academy graduate is philosophical in his reaction to being sidelined by Hodgson:

'No one will be cheering louder than me for England when the championships start. My really good mates from City and other clubs will be playing and of course I want my country to win. Of course my initial reaction is to be gutted but a manager is there to pick a squad and he cannot pick everyone...I will take myself off on holiday and come back refreshed and ready to start again next season. There is so much to look forward to starting with City's trip to China and Malaysia and then the Community Shield match against Chelsea. We are defending the Premier League title and we will be ready to be competitive in the Champions League.'

A fit and firing Richards will be the last thing a gasping, wheezing Lampard, Terry and Cole will be wanting to face on the 12th August at Villa Park.

What on earth has Phil Jones done to merit a place over Richards? He's had one promising season and has looked very average this season. Bizarre.

I, like so many England fans am amazed at Richards not getting into the squad and I have to wonder if this is political rather than a football decision.

Phil Jones is one for the future, but Taking Johnson, Downing, Barry, Terry,Carroll sparks of the FA not Hodgson picking them. Terry should not go as far as I'm concerned.

Spot on Lilywhites. Almost a whiff of player power play safe about this. How can Downing with no goals and no assists be there ahead of Lennon? That's a disgrace. If Hodgson had selected a load of kids in preference to all those knackered old flops I swear the nation would have applauded. As it stands it's completely underwhelming.

Another manager unwilling to take any risks and bowing to FA and/or media pressure. Would like to see Wenger coach our national team if/when he leaves Arsenal, I don't like him exactly, but there is no better coach who knows the English game who can build a good youth-centric team.
