'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A 'Short' But Effective Pizarro

32 year old David Pizarro moved to the Etihad Stadium on a six-month loan deal on transfer deadline day in January...reuniting with boss Roberto Mancini, who had previously managed him at Inter Milan.

The former Chile international made seven appearances for City in the second half of the campaign, scoring once in a Europa League clash with Porto.

Pizarro revealed that his move to the Premier League was partly motivated by a falling out with Roma boss Luis Enrique.
However, he insists that he intends to stay in the Italian capital and see out the final year of his contract with the Serie A club when he returns after the summer break.

'I returned to Rome from Manchester and I'm not going to move again,' Pizarro told I' Romanista.

'I had no intention of leaving AS Roma even in January, but I had a bad relationship with Luis Enrique and then when [Roberto] Mancini called I accepted. It was all very sudden.

'Now, I'm going on vacation and then I'll return to Rome.

'I hope to finish my European career at AS Roma, I still have a one-year contract and I'm very motivated.'

Pizarro also revealed that Mancini asked him for advice during the title run-in, particularly when City were behind rivals Manchester United in the table.

City eventually managed to claw back an eight-point deficit to claim the title on the final day and Pizarro admits Mancini had consulted him regarding Roma's near miss in 2010.

Back then Roma managed to chase down Inter Milan at the top of the table, only to lose out on the final day of the season.

'When we were under United in the table no-one expected us to recover,' he added.

'Mancini always asked me advice, referring to the 2010 Serie A championship, when Roma recovered so many points to Inter Milan. Because of my experience he wanted me to give a hand.'

Thank you Pizarro. Loved that cameo appearance against Porto, it will live long in my memory, fantastic performance. All the best with Roma next season and wherever your career takes you after that.

Although we didn't see too much of him in his half-season loan, there's no doubting he had a positive impact on the team. Just a pity we got him at the wrong end of his career, otherwise he'd have been a useful addition to the squad. Grazie David!
