City Still Firing Blanks

City Still Firing Blanks

Following last night's dull and scrappy goalless draw against Pompey, City now have the unenviable record of being the only team in the Premiership who have failed to score so far this season.

As well as being a very depressing statistic for fans, Pearce must also be very concerned. Despite bolstering up on forwards in recent months with the arrival of Samaras, Corradi and Dickov, City's attack so far has looked out of sorts and never looking likely to generate the goals from all the hard work and battling that's going on in midfield.

Forget the results for now, City's performances have been workmanlike with players seeming to lack the confidence to take on and beat the last defender and shoot at goal. We're fiddling around with the ball rather than trying to score - I can't understand it.

We're up against the Gooners on Saturday and perhaps Psycho needs to take a lead from Wenger, who looks likely to play Walcott. City have a couple of young guns in the reserves at a similar age to Walcott and perhaps it's now time to give them their chance.

Daniel Sturridge and Kelvin Etuhu have been knocking on the first team door since last season and if Samaras, Corradi, Vassell and Dickov are struggling for form, give the youngsters a chance - they can't do any worse

Let's hope Psycho will soon give them a decent run and not the six minutes that BWP got every other game ( by the way he scored for Soton again last night! ).

Couple of quick other points:

1) Reyna ..... WHY ????

2) Thatcher ..... a disgrace last night

Finally, well done to the 'Boro last night - you did us all a favour !

We have started from where we left off last season and no wonder with Dickov the only new face (and he is well passed his sell by date) from the six that were signed. Why was Dabo on the bench and never used, what has happened to Jordan ? If we can get Corradi, Hamman, Dabo and Jordan in on Saturday we might be able to make a match of it.

I dont care about what Thatcher did to be honest, these things happen in football. Ive seen worse and will continue to do so.

I wonder bluerick if you'd have felt the same way had that challenge occurred on a city player. eltoro by the way is not a Pompey fan he's a villa fan who is disgusted with Thatchers challenge. Personally I feel there is no place in the game for that sort of challenge. Had he made an attempt to play the ball then i would have been more willing to grant him some leeway but his obvious intention was to flatten Mendes.

I don't want City to go down as a result of what happened or otherwise, I like the club. Any comments Pearce may have made (don't know what they were) would have been made probably without seeing a replay of what happened, having seen it even Pearce, who is a tough guy wouldn't like it. Thatcher had no intention of getting anything apart from the man... Had Mendes, or any other Pompey player performed such a shocking and discraceful act, which has no place in football at any level I'd be on his back right away...

I feel the same way i would not condone that sort of a challenge from anyone, if he was a Pompey player i would still be demanding he be punished for it.

The thing with it is PHYSCO completly sat on the fence he knew outright that HIS player had been a complete thug and should have said so right then. I however am very pleased at the way our players reacted to this thug. Could you imagine if that had happend to a manchester united player of chelsea they would have been a riot. All i can say is thatcher is lucky i wasnt at right back last night. He should be banned for the entire season and city should come out and openly apolgise on behalf of their player.

I was absolutely appalled at what i saw as it happened right in front of where I was sitting, I think the least he should get is a 6 month ban AND a hefty fine, foot ball can certainly do without this kind of play and I for one would not care if he never wore a City shirt again.
