Why All The Rag Hype About RVP?

The rags are prepared to match Wayne Rugney's massive salary in order to secure Robin Van Persie's services. Is the 29 year old Arsenal skipper daft enough to join The Stretfords...?

Admittedly, City seem to be back to where we started in the bidding for Robin Van Persie...nowhere!!!

According to some reports it is suggested that RVP is now going to go to United, and other sources suggest a 'deal' is still on for RVP to come to City......why so much hype?

Why would you want to be living in the shadows with United, a team that has many trophies under their belt already? What more is to be gained? Would one not prefer to come to a team that is just beginning their journey as Champions rather than join a team that quite frankly cannot get much better than it has already when it comes to the Premiership Title!?

Would it not make sense to come to Manchester City and make a name for yourself at the same time as helping City to soar higher than our first title win for 44 years...the first of many?

I would feel quite sorry for RVP if he went to the rags as he will never be part of a unique experience...the experience of course being keeping the rags out of the top spot again and further fuelling the City juggernaut.

It seems that Arsenal, and their fans, are still adamant that their captain is not going anywhere. Who knows, because I am certain RVP does not know himself. This could quite simply again be a greedy agent trying to farm him out to the highest salary!

Ferguson wants RVP to play alongside his little pal Rooney, (and just for the hell of it Usain Bolt himself). I would say that that is probably down to the fact that Rooney is needing a little help these days because, let's face it, you cannot rely on veterans (Lampard and Beckham excluded) to keep assisting...(Giggs and Scholes come to mind). Desperate measures. If you don't mind me saying so bringing your old guys back out of retirement...

On the up side for RVP, if he came to Manchester City he would be playing with a rising club that would allow him to have a claim to fame and be a part of a major victory in assisting the Blues in retaining their top spot as Champions....(with not a pensioner in sight).

Wenger would burst a blood vesself if the Arsenal board go over his head and allow the rags to sign RVP. He may not like us very much (despite handing him fork-lift truck loads of cash for several of his players, some more wanted than not), but despite their public shows of bonhomie, I suspect Arsene can't stand Taggart, and would do everything in his power not to sell the rags anyone.

Why all the hype? Because U*d need to sell some shares on their stock exchange float. When have you ever known old Bacon to be so open about transfers? It's obvious he's loose lipped this time around to ramp up interest in their shares, pathetic really. As for RVP, the best case scenario is he fecks off to Juventus as we are well set with what we have given that T***z is now seemingly content. If he goes to U*d he will considerably strengthen them, well moreso than their other acquisitions this summer are likely to, so I hope that doesn't come to fruition.

I don't think RVP would be right for City, a good CM and a CB will do us

Fair shout Lorna & Bluedub. At first I fancied RVP for City but it was probably rose-tinted and based upon last years performances and goals. He did however play for Arsenal in the League Cup in the first season at Eastlands, scored twice and put us out. That is nearly ten years ago and last season was the first in which he put in a decent amount of work. I suspect he played with injuries because his entries in the sick-bay book over the years have been plentiful. Maybe he wants to play til he is 40 and thinks Stretford is just the venue. If Tevez stays onside with City and Balotelli realises his potential, we wouldn't need RVP, because have you seen Aguero in the pre-season? Awesome. Also I hear Llorente is making murmurings. The Etihad beckons.

FCB, one statistic proves how much AW dislikes Ferguson and United. Arsenal have not sold a single player to United in the Wenger tenure - 14 years. Overall, this article i quite a departure from earlier ones on the subject from Vital Mancity. Earlier, most readers here were satisfied with their strikeforce and said they were not sure why RvP was required with some even claiming he was not a great player anyway. Now that the buzz from Ferguson confirms United's clear desire for his signature, the stance seems to have shifted. From an Arsenal perspective, a Juventus transfer would be excellent but its highly unlikely.

Deltaforce, there has always been a divide amongst the City faithful since the Van Persie deal was mooted, while others remained on the fence about the prospect.

Mhmm, good angle you've got there, re: red nose's intention to use this to ramp up share prices. I have always thought there was something fishy about his recent change in transfer tactics, even nosing into other clubs' affairs. What is his business if Arsenal were negotiating with other clubs, for Christ sakes?

Spot on Naija. The rags are desperate to secure Van Persie. This could get very interesting indeed!

JB, while one wishes that your feeling turns out to be right, my gut says United because - a) RvP wants to go there and b) They look to be the highest willing bidder in terms of transfer fee as well as on the wage front for the player.

Delta, I've seen the reports in the press saying that U*d is RVP's preferred choice but is there any quotes from the man himself to back that up?

No quotes from RvP to that effect Bluedub hence my filing the opinion under the 'gut feeling' category. Even logically its clear that City would have certainly followed up on their initial bid with a second bid to Arsenal IF they had received backing and interest from RvP's camp. My feeling is United have come back with a second bid for RvP because they have an agreement in place with him already and are now tasked with agreeing terms with Arsenal.

Tell you what it will be terrible for Team Glazer if they don't sign the Dutchman now Taggart has opened up to the hacks. If I was RVP and wanted a quiet life out of this dreary saga I'd be off to Italy prepared to take a pay cut, too.

Suspect any deal RVP might sign with the rags will have a great deal of financial chicanery based around image rights, bonuses, appearance money etc., rather than just straight wages into the bank every week. The rags simply can't afford to hand over a huge wedge of cash; if they did, RVP's agent would already have an agreement in place with David Gill and the player himself would be in the press every other day agitating for a move. That he isn't would suggest he's still to make up his mind. Tell you one thing - RVP is deeply unpopular with the Arsenal fans at the moment, would become much less popular if he signed for City, but what will the gooners think of him if he signs for Stretford?! Doesn't bear thinking about really. Hope Juventus can scrape a deal together for everyone's sake!

"Hope Juventus can scrape a deal together for everyone's sake!". Either that or he signs for Stretford for 25m on 220k a week and does a cruciate* in his first home game. Best deal all around for everyone, innit? (*I'd never actually wish a serious injury on any player except Rooney, Adebayor and Neville before he retired)
