City's Reserves Back to Winning Ways

After back to back defeats against Manchester United and away to Newcastle United after being 3-0 up, City managed a decent victory.

lthough City had a younger than normal team out through International appearances, Wigan are the whipping boys of this division and probably had most of the possession of this game; but clinical finishing from midfielder Paul Marshall who has been struggling so far this season with the form he showed last season, produced a much better display and his corner taking improved through the match to allow Garry Breen to apply presure on the centre half Andrew Webster to head the ball into his own net past experienced goalkeeper Mike Pollitt. City gave a reserve debut to DaMarcus Beasley, but I would have to say apart from one time when he tracked back and made a good tackle, as a winger he failed to score or provide one cross for the other forwards to have a chance at scoring and so when he went of just before half time he was not really missed. His replacement, 17 year old Irish winger, Donal McDermott, offered the team far more and delivered some decent crosses and was far stronger on the ball and won some vital free kicks in good positions.

ity's first goal came from good work by Ashley Williams on the right and the ball came into the box where there was a bit of a scramble and their appeared to be a foul, but the referee did not blow and Marshall pounced to send the ball past pollitt. City's second goal came from a throw in on the right where Marshall turned sharply and drove to the box and fired into the far corner. City third and killer goal came just three minutes later from the corner. City had a breif scare when Joe Hart parried a Andreas Johansson short straight to substitute Jonathan Smith but his shot hit the underside of the bar and fortunately bounced back into the arms of Hart.

ity's next game in the premier reserve league is against Sheffield United on Tuesday 17th October.
