Police clear Barton

Merseyside police have confirmed that they will not be taking any action over Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton baring his backside at the end of Saturday's game at Everton.

The midfielder made the gesture as a response to comments being shouted by the home supporters about his half-brother Michael, who is is prison for the murder of teenager Anthony Walker.

The Eastlands club have since been inundated by letters and emails from Everton fans asking them not to take any action against Barton.
It appears the Everton fans believe the gesture was made more in jest than in any antagonistic way and they do not agree with the actions of the minority of Toffees fans who felt compelled to report the matter to the police.

Referee Andre Marriner was informed of the incident after the game and subsequently included it in his match report but the FA have yet to comment, leading many to believe that Barton will escape with a minor fine at worst.

I thought it was hilarious, why would he need to get done for that?

I wonder how much police time and public money has been wasted on this. Who are these "fans" who make complaints over every trivial, minor incident - they really ought to get a life and stay away from football

The pathetic FA have now charged Barton, what is wrong with those muppets? They let blatent dives go by the way and then charge Barton for this....the mind boggles!!

This was always on the cards. The FA have proved again that they are way out of touch and don't deserve to be custodians of the game. It's just another sign of these political correct times we live in. I'm surprised Barton's not been carded for removing his shirt and giving it to the disabled City supporter
