18 year old Micah Richards' performance in his first full international showed maturity way beyond his youn age. Although it was a friendly, to make your international debut against Holland is still a stern test and he came through it with flying colours.
He did make a couple of early slips, but recovered from them confidently and for the majority of the game had the measure of Arjen Robben and Van de Vaart, who both looked like they didn't really fancy a physical encounter with Micah, who for 18 is built like a brick s**thouse !
Robben recognised Micah's performance saying:
'He has got a great future ahead of him. He is just 18, but if you see his body and strength and power it is unbelievable. I played against him already earlier in the season and I always like to play against him because he is quick and powerful and tonight it was a good fight.'
Micah played an instrumental role in England's goal, with an overlap that drew the defender away from Joe Cole, allowing him to send in a great cross for Rooney to tap in. Micah could have had a goal himself, when a rebound in the six-yard box was taken off his feet by the Dutch keeper.
McClaren should have tricky selection for the next England game, when Gary Neville should be fit again, but Micah has demonstrated what City fans have known for a while, that he is England's future long-term right back.
Micah's performance just before the January transfer window could be a mixed blessing for City. Last night will have increased his value for sure and it's likely that City's resolve to keep him will be tested with offers from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and I wouldn't rule out a raid by the Rags..... but maybe City can persuade him to stay a while longer, which would be the best option all round.
