What Should City Do With Mario?

Some say Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is like a 'father-figure' towards Mario Balotelli. If that's true isn't it time the Italian gave his fellow countryman a clipped ear?

Petulance, disobedience, sulking and storming off was usually enough for me to give my kids a one-way conversation. Isn't it time Mancini did the same?

All the talent in the world and yet Mario gives the impression he doesn't give a flying **ck. So the question has to be...what should MCFC do with Mario?

The ESPN Soccer Press Pass team begin the show, first broadcast in the UK on Monday 10 December discussing the very subject.

Complete mystery. Capable of sublime footballing skill and able to demonstrate maturity at times but then allows it to desert him completely at others. There are only so many times that I can listen to Mancini warn this young man that he is on the verge of throwing away a priviliged chance in life. In the end the individual himself has to make his own choice's in life and Mancini also needs to understand that his indulgence in this 'wayward genius' is not just a private affair. It's not just about whether he has to put up with a sullen individual at his dinner table after a row....his behaviour and performances affect his team mates, the dynamic of the game, the functioning of the squad and potentially the fortunes of the club. I have been very patient so far but am tiring of the endless chances being spurned and am struggling now to see any further perseverence as having any value.

I have thought about this long and hard, and have no answer.
