'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Focus On...Jack Rodwell

Continuing the summer series where VMC writers look at key members of the City squad, our Lorna looks at Jack Rodwell, a young player resembling a man on a mission of late...

Jack Rodwell
Number: 17

D.O.B
11/03/1991

Birthplace:
Southport, England

Height:
6' 2'

Nickname:
J-Rod and Jay - R

Position:
Defensive Midfielder / Centre - Back

Signed:
August 2012 from Everton

Fee:
£12m

International:
England

After suffering a terrible season plagued with injuries and only managing to make 6 starts in all competitions Jack has proved he is tough, versatile and has dogged determination. Personally, I think he is an excellent player, so full of energy and wants to play for this club.

He has good tackling skills and is strong enough to take on both midfield and defensive roles. As he progresses, his fitness will come along with maturity. We cannot possibly forget his 2 goals in the last match of last season against Norwich when he gave City fans a glimpse of his ability. An emphatic finish to a slick move for his first goal and a powerful sprint and even better shot for his second goal. This ended his season on a high and Planet Blue had an insight of what could come from a surefire midfielder/defender.

Jack has a lot to prove and in his own words says 'They haven't seen the best of me yet, once I am fit, I can do what I did for that second goal, and I can do it for 90 minutes.'

The gloves are off, bring it on Jack!!

Can see Jack going on to become one of the best midfielders in the league if he can stay fit for more than a couple of games.
fifthcolumnblue
He has great quality, but is injury prone and that's why Everton got rid. For his sake hope he can stay fit and string some great performances together, although he ill find it hard to get games.
johnkelv
Looked a real box to boxer with shooting boots on at the end of the season.
Johnny Baguette
I thik his injuries came as he was growing up so to speak but since he has been with us he has changed his lifestyle right down to his mattress and pillow. I say he will do good and go far
Lorna Silva
The lad clearly has talent and as long as he can stay injury free I reckon he'll get a chance under Pellegrini.
Skoorb
I like the lad ..has heaps of potential but needs a season without injury to establish himself as a first choice player.
