Will Belgium Risk 50:50 Kompany

City captain Vincent Kompany is one of those that would ordinarily, as he is at club level, be the first name on the teamsheet for Belgium but he's rated as 50:50 for their world cup clash today.

Belgium boss Marc Wilmots is 'uncertain' at this stage if his captain will make it for their second round clash with the USA as he has an ongoing groin injury, one that City will be looking to make sure is right going into next season.

Wilmots says he knows the injury very well having previously 'played for a year with the same problem', which might leave a few City fans sitting a little uncomfortably at hearing such thoughts.

The world cup comes around only every four-years, and it the top honour for any player to perform at, and as much as Kompany will want to play tonight this can't be done at the risk of further injury to impact on his availability for City can it.

No risks were taken against South Korea but with his now a straight knockout game Wilmots, and Kompany himself, might be a little more willing to 'take a chance' but both are also experienced enough, and will show enough respect to others, to do the right thing you would think.

It goes without saying that Belgium have a better chance of progressing with Kompany than without mind!

In other defensive news today City are said to have agreed a 30m deal with Roma for Tunisia defender Mehdi Benatia, however the Italian side will only let him leave if they can find a suitable replacement....

They did and he appears to have come out the other side unscathed, but sadly on the wrong side of the result after an excellent campaign for the Belgium Team
