FA Cup Video From The Past: Huddersfield v Man City (1988)
Back in the 1987/88 season both Huddersfield Town and Manchester City were playing one another in the old Division 2, but it took two FA Cup replays and a few goals for one to venture into the next round.
There won't be two replays this year but I wonder if the final result on Saturday will see anything similar?
Huddersfield Town's 1987/88 campaign is statistically Town's worst ever season in their league history. Town won only 6 league games all season, had their heaviest ever defeat in their history, (Man City 10-1 Huddersfield) conceded 100 league goals in the season and finished 19 points adrift of safety and even 14 points behind 2nd-bottom team Reading. Both of the two managers during the season, Steve Smith and Malcolm Macdonald both failed miserably and Macdonald is regarded as one of the worst managers in Town's history (taken from Wiki).
Manchester City 1987/88 campaign saw the club finish a disappointing ninth while Millwall finished the season as champions. Aston Villa and Middlesbrough followed closely behind.
MCFC found themselves in Round 6 of the FA Cup however, Liverpool humiliated City 4-0 at Maine Road.
In the Wembley final the Merseyside lot came unstuck when unfancied Wimbledon won 1-0. Ah, those were the days.

Key match stats (supplied by Opta)
Huddersfield and City have been paired together twice before in the FA Cup - City were victorious in both ties (Round 4 in 1925/26 and Round 3 in 1987/88, though they needed two replays).
The Terriers have failed to score in three of their previous four FA Cup games with Manchester City.
This is the first game between the two clubs in any competition since February 2000, when they played out a 1-1 draw in the second tier. Clyde Wijnhard opened the scoring before Shaun Goater equalised for City.
Town haven't gone beyond the fifth round of the FA Cup since 1971/72.
Come on CITY!
