City Trio In EFL Team Of The Tournament (27/2/18)
Manchester City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero are represented in the League Cup Team of the Tournament that has been selected after this weekend's Final between Arsenal and Manchester City.
The performances by Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero in Manchester City's EFL Cup run this season was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the League Cup competition.
I think we'll already know ourselves why the trio were selected as part of the team but explaining the choice - the EFL Cup blurb read.
'The midfield magician scored in both legs of the semi-final against Bristol City, setting another up at Ashton Gate for good measure, proving the key player as the brave Robins finally met their match. And although he was frustrated by the aforementioned Norris, De Bruyne starred against Wolves and netted from the spot as City edged through.'
'Silva has lit up the Carabao Cup in his first season in English football, whether that`s finding the net or creating the chances for his team-mates. The Portuguese international set up crucial goals in Round Three and both legs of the last-four tie, and he grabbed a goal as Manchester City saw off Leicester City in the quarter-finals.'
'The man for the big occasion. Aguero coolly slotted home the winning spot-kick in the shoot-out against Wolves. Yet it was in the semi-finals where he exploded into life, netting a late winner at the Etihad Stadium before grabbing the crucial second goal at Ashton Gate.'
It's always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to all three for their recognition.
