'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Things are Heating Up!

Reuters (May 1st)

Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Thai prime minister, confirmed on Tuesday he had made an indicative proposal for Britain's Manchester City soccer club.

'Thaksin confirms that he and his advisers have made an indicative proposal that may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company,' he said in a statement.

I'm not sure if I like the club being referred to as 'Britain's Manchester City soccer club', but things are moving quickly now it seems.

Obviously we are still awaiting the current board's 'preferred US investor' to show their hand but we can expect that soon if there is substance in the original board statements.

There are obviously concerns amongst some supporters surronding Shinawatra's human rights record as well as what he wants out of Manchester City. Those are unlikely to meet with much resistance however if he invests heavily in the team.

There are also concerns surronding claims that he wishes to keep the current manager in post if successful in his takeover of the club. That I cannot believe any more than Stuart Pearce himself can.

What is fior sure is that there is plenty going on behind the scenes. I still do not believe the Allardyce resignation is purely coincidence and feel he may have been lined up by one of the current bidders to replace Stuart Pearce.

Whether that is Shinawatra or not I am not sure. It would seem more likely that the Thai would want his own high profile manager in post in which to entrust his supposed £50 million for team investment.

Whatever happens it seems that Manchester City are truly up for sale. Be prepared for a busy summer.
