Harewood and Ljungberg linked?

In what makes a pleasant change from talking Thai politics, players are finally being linked with a move to Manchester City.
The Daily Mail and The Mirror are today both reporting that if Sven accepts the managerial post then West Ham's Marlon Harewood is likely to be his first signing.

Harewood, 27, only managed four goals last season as the Hammers struggled and is surely not the answer to City's goal scoring problems.

As well as Harewood, several news sources are linking City with Arsenal's Freddie Ljunberg.

With City's wing options severely limited it is suggested that Ljunberg is seen as the short term answer for the right hand side.

Both player's are in my opinion not what City need and are probably little more than idle media speculation.

Harewood is little more than a backup Premiership striker of which we already have quite a few.

With no disrespect meant to the player he is not the class finisher City are looking for.

Ljunberg is a different kettle of fish. Whilst there can be little doubting his ability or class he is now beginning to show his age and show signs of being far too injury prone.

The last two manager's tried recruiting players of a similar ilk and were let down in the process.

It's to be hoped the new owner and his manager have visions beyond these types of players.

How players can be linked to the Club before a new Manager is appointed is beyond me....no doubt the usual media tosh...I see the MCFC website is running a competition guessing how many players will be linked to the Club before the transfer deadline .. my present guess is 132 !!!

Frank did say that discussions on players they wanted had been discussed with a potential manager, but I agree every player will be on the list and we will have a squad of about 83 if we believed what the press tell us. My guess was less than yours, 33

Because of his England experience, Sven has a vast knowledge of European football talent. I'm sure he will be keeping his own council, and not discussing his plans with the Press. He will be out to sign the best in Europe, if not the World, to the delight and amazement of all Blues.
