City sign Petrov

City have today made their fourth signing of the summer after beating off competition from Spurs for the signature of Bulgarian international Martin Petrov.

Petrov joins the blues from Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid where he appeared 45 times, scoring three goals and providing ten assists.

Petrov is being brought in to fill the problem left wing position.

It is indicitive of the lure of Eriksson that City are able to attract a player of Petrov's quality.

That Tottenham could offer European football, as well as a settled compatriot in Berbatov, and still couldn't beat City to the player's signature speaks volumes.

another mercenary if he signs for Citeh!
dannispur
Why on this earth has he chosen City over Spurs???? Well done guys- things are looking up for you it seems. Just hope for your sake he isn't another Damien Duffer!!!!
comeonyouspurs
Is this really a done deal?
michael.thfc
Yes, but is his Knee a done deal
lobo spurs nutz
gutted, good signing for you guys i just hope you don't have a leeds situation there. dodgy charman who spunks loads on wages and leaves. it's amazing how much money talks!!!!!!
FOLKESTONE YID
No doubt money talks boys ...... but when you aint got Euro football to offer money needs to talk. Or should we just roll over and let other clubs dictate our transfer policy? On a happier note for Spurs the feeling up here is that you could be the ones to break the top four with your near neighbours slipping outside of it. You'll need a left winger though :-)
ronin
All the pieces of the jigsaw falling nicely into place. This is another case of Sven beating the opposition to land a star player. Now all you knockers look elsewhere !!!
alphieblues
i agree with you Ronin, you do need to splash the cash as you are not looking for pieces in a jigsaw you actually need the whole jigsaw! How are you getting on with disposing of the dead wood??? good signing though, Jol needs to be a bit more agressive in the market to get us that left winger we crave
FOLKESTONE YID
All the dead wood has long since gone just ask the Barcodes.
alphieblues
I hope they're right Michael and it is. I don't want this bloke. The eastern europeans rarely make an impact over here as they come for a pay day (Berbs is the exception and not the rule). I suspect Spurs were never in for the injury prone 28 year old but as usual the agents and papers have nothing better to do that talk about Spurs.
The Tailor
How amazing it is when you(spurs) don't get him, you then decide he's injury prone and you didn't want him in the first place, Jol obviously did, but Svennis just has that persuasive touch, no wonder he has had a lot of practice and success scoring with the fair sex. Anyway who's next. Did you see the interview with SGE on Skysports, just love that grin but only tells the media what he wants them to know. Never give the suckers an even break. SP could learn a lot from this guy.
Buzz Lightyear
The media haven't got a clue who he is after, by my count they have linked us with 48 different players in the last two weeks and never once was there any mention of the ones. he has signed....Well done Sven continue to keep them guessing ...
alphieblues
Buzz Lightyear, if you read previous comments on articles on our site about him we were all concerned about his injuries. If he can stay injury free im sure he'll do well for you guys. Good luck for the season!
Spurs7389
Looks like our Sven is on a roll!
sandgroanun
I have to say im alarmed if we cant compete at anything with Man City, how many goals did they treat their home fans to last year. I have to be honest, I think there is something wrong with our transfer tactics, we seem to have lost Boeteng, we have lost Petrov and we would have lost Bent but for the lads determination to play for us. I think the problem is an idea that quality players will play for crap wages, it just doesnt happen. In any walk of life if you pay pea-nuts you get monkeys. Unless we wake up to whats going on in the also ran clubs regarding investment in quality european players we will do well to finish in the top 8 never mind top 4.
Frank
The other thing thats impressive is how fast it happened, there wasnt the saga dragging on for several weeks that is par for the course with our transfers.
Frank
Bye the way where has "Vital Tottenham" gone, or is it too hot at the moment with likely criticism of a crap 2 weeks in the transfer market.
Frank
Frank, with all due respect matey, barring your minimal FA Cup successes, the last of which was 16 years ago, what have you achieved over and above the also rans of City in recent years? I think you may find your last Championship win was even more distant than ours. The short and narrow of it is that you have to compete in the wage market to compete for transfers. If company X is offering me more than company y I know who I'm working for regardless of previous company performance. Performance can after all be improved. If you want my opinion, for what it's worth, I still think Spurs are this season's best challengers to break the top four. However if North London, yourself and the Arse, continues to resist the lure of foreign lucre you may well find yourselves cast adrift in years to come. You may look down on us other clubs as also rans at the moment but we've got serious money to play with. Spent wisely it's been proven that even Ken Bates' old charges leave you lagging behind as London's third best team.
ronin
There is only one team that will be challenging the top four this season !!!
alphieblues
Frank, I think Spurs have always played attractive football and you have players envied by other teams, if you read some of our comments quite a few would take Defoe, even though he cannot get a regular place on your team, but that speaks volumes of what you have, your problem is that you have to compete with the guners and chelski, but in Jol you have a good manager. What Petrov said was that he knew mpenza and corradi and the manager, big facts when you are arriving in a strange land to see familiar faces to help you settle down. I agree with Ronin, you are the most likely to be challenging for that top 4, we on the other hand will have a successful season finishing in the top half and any europe finish would be an added bonus.
Buzz Lightyear
hopefully with a bit of luck now we can do well this season i am sick of taken ***** of the family over every year we have, my das a chelski and my two brothers r liverpool and utd so hopefully a few more signings will keep them off my back
dunne deal
DD its starting to look good, but we still need cover, interesting to note that SGE wants geovanni to play wide right, better opposition tomorrow. The more games they play the better. I know what you mean about the family, I am better off than you they are all blues except my eldest brother who is an armchair red, he has never seen them live so he doesn't count. it is being able to go into work after a match without getting some stick, that's what i am looking forward too.
Buzz Lightyear
Sven is picking out some really good players. Top 6 finish methinks!
Adilson
too high Adilson, but I like your optimism, remember these buys have not played in the premier. Arsene venger looks for players with speed and some talent, then develops the talent. One thing for sure is that Svennis seems to have learned from his time in the England post, and is determined not to make the same mistakes again.
Buzz Lightyear
i no BL its the same in work for me, we realy need to sign maybe 1 ot 2 more players b4 we can start thinking about a top 10 position thats wat i think

One of the more interesting signings this summer. But will he score goals for you?

Feckin hell, this fella makes Roman look like a really decent Bloke: http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2139042,00.html
Blue is the colour
From last night's programme it would appear that TONY BLAIR and GEORGE BUSH have far more to answer for when it comes to human rights !!!
alphieblues
Alphieblues, it appeared everything was circumstantial, a lot of accuastions without any real examples, the last interview was interesting as he was pointing out to the BBC man that he should listen the the tapes again about charges and the human rights guy did not answer the question, but kept well clear of making any slanderous accusations. The BBC guy could not defend that one but merely blustered over it. No hard evidence again Dr T, but the more you allege the more people will believe the stories are true. The worrying thing was the question of how long Dr T was going to be here. I would have liked the answer to been more than 10 years.
Buzz Lightyear
Buzz..If his investment brings success and then he decides to depart there would be a queue of potential suitors waiting in the wings. If it is not successful then we are quite used to that and we would be back to the norm. In the meantime let's all enjoy the ride.
alphieblues
vedran corluka is the new face in manchester
andy27
I hope for your sake he is better than our Petrov!!!
DeanoVilla
Today Alphieblue, I am going round again, this ride I am going to enjoy. I am a lot happier now he has signed a couple of defenders and everything is coming together, i love the fact that they are all young, and the players we usually get, those at the end of their careers. It will take time for them to get used to playing as a team. I have seen the good times and want the younger fans to experience winning trophies that they won when I was a lot younger in my teens, there is no other feeling like it believe me.
Buzz Lightyear
things r lookin good for us i am liking all the signings we r doin another good signing today lads he looks good for us hopefully he will score a few goals for us lads.
