'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sven adds another!

Bulgarian international, Valeri Bojinov, today became City's eighth signing of the summer and fourth in just two hectic days.

Bojinov, 21, joins the blues from Italian side Fiorentina in a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Bojinov holds the record as the youngest ever overseas player to debut in Serie A when he appeared for Lecce at the age of just 15 years and 11 months.

Bojinov's arrival probably completes one of the more hectic weeks in City transfer history following yesterday's signings of Elano, Garrido and Carluka.

Going down the imported multi national route, a la, portsmouth, bolton etc. Hope it works, should be a lot of badge kissing etc.
Eddie01
what position does he play ?
Tonytime
tonytime ... up front
ronin
Eddie .... the difference in the City approach is that the average age of all 8 imports is in the region of 23. Unlike the imports at the aforementioned clubs these players have everything to prove rather than just looking for a last payday. I hope it works.
ronin
Ronin, these are internationals, which if you look at it play a premiership class of football, Svennis has had to go abroad for his players as here they have priced themselves out of the market, and the good thing is, even though we have the money, we will not be blackmailed into over the odds purchases, Someone pointed out the comparison between Richardson and Petrov, Petrov looks the part and whilst I dislike Rednose, he is not going to let anyone leave the swamp if they had any potential. The point now is that we have cover inb all areas, it is down to the players we have to show the manager why they should be picked and that can only be good for us, they will be out there giving all, if they want to part of the team, if not adios amigo, or whatever language they happen to speak as they go through the exit door to the job centre.
Buzz Lightyear
did anyone just c the conference just there cos sven is still thinkin about signin more players and looks to be english but i suppose we will have to wait an c
dunne deal
DD, I hope one of them is a goalie, Carson. I still think we need a class Central Defender for Distin. and a Mike Doyle type guy in midfield, this part I expect Johnson to fill, but needs a season or two more to mature, blend in gently not burn him out.
Buzz Lightyear
I think Corluka will be the ideal replacement for Distin and at 21 he already has experience in the Champions League and at International level.
alphieblues
well if ya think about it i think isaksson is a great goalkeeper being honest wit ya and i think he will do the thricks for us and i did think gettin rid of distin was stupid cos i though he had a brillant sesason for us he had his ups and downs but they were mostly ups
dunne deal
I thought Corluka was a right back? Going to be an interesting season ahead. Going to take 6mths for these players to settle in, then we will see
Topspur1
Corluka has played as a full back and central defender.
alphieblues
Topspur 1, you wish it was 6 months, I go off what The Goat said, it takes 10 games to get used to someone. Had a look at Bresciano on youtube, Svennis, just found my mike doyle, but with a better shooting foot.
Buzz Lightyear
jesus cant belive isaksson is out for a month thats pretty ***** bein honest wit ya so we will lose him for the statr of the season and the match against utd its horrible
dunne deal
Any chance he might buy somebody he's seen play?
dazza71
i never saw pele or maradona live .... still great players imho
ronin
just discrediting your tabloid bandwagon dazza
ronin
the sooner backwater Ingerland fans realise the world cup was as much the 'golden generation's' fault as it was 'johnny foreigner' the manager's the sooner they will realise Sven weren't so bad. Aftre all McClaren's working miracles with the same 'golden generation' isn't he?
ronin
Ronin, you only dream that you hit the jackpot if you got world class players like pele and maradona, they both had it all and were a pleasure to watch, From a footballing point of view Best was equal to them and if only he had been English. McClaren is struggling with the miracles, Svens' boys only lost on pens, what might have been eh!!
Buzz Lightyear
SGE didn't deploy the strengths of the english game whilst with the international side - can he adapt, or is Italy engrained?
Craig Cain
Craig, he was manager of champions in various countries, he went for a 4 5 1 on Saturday I think to see what he had in midfield, that is where his engine is and we need to get the right drive for the front men. The media was disappoined with Elano, what did they expect, the finished article, these players will gel in time. I was impressed with Ireland and he has found more space with Barton gone. Johnson was caught several times in possession as was Fernandes, but they will learn. We have a good backroom squad and I am sure we will win more than we lose and score more than we concede. We don't expect to win everytime, but neither do I expect to lose. There is quality there it is just a matter of time and bonding.
Buzz Lightyear
I saw some of the best football played by City for many a long day. It was a joy to watch us play with the ball on the floor instead of the usual punt upfield and hope. Things can only get better especially with two of our new signings that didn't figure on Saturday and at least another two coming in this week.
alphieblues
Buzz do you seriously think it's only going to take 10 games, for all these players to settle in. Not only have you a new manager, but all your players are from over seas. It might take 10 games if a player is settling into a settled side.
Topspur1
Topspur1, It was the Goat that said 10 games, these are not school kids, they have plied their trade in good leagues abroad, 10 games is over 25% of the season and I do expect them to know each other by then, They will learn a lot more during training. I take it you did not see the match against Valencia, I wont lie to you and say the result did not matter, we all like to win, but what I was pleased about, they played well for a team that had only known each other a few days, (plus we had players still waiting for work permits) if they could play that well just think what they could do in a few weeks.
Buzz Lightyear
Buzz we went through that last year, we only manage to win 1 game out of our 1st 6. It was end of Jan, before we started playing with any fluidity. No I didn't see your game, and I hope you don't think I'm having a pop! I would M.U. to have some competition in Manchester. But I just don't believe you can gel that many players that quickly, maybe Sven will prove me wrong.
Topspur1
Topspur1, you can if you have the right manager and coaches, thats why svennis is amongst the best, i am not saying we are going to make any great shakes, but we will be a lot better than last year and we finished 14th. it is just getting the right blend and for the players we have to settle down faster, because the are internationals, they have played top level football, the will gel and the more games they play the more they will gel and the better they will get. I think motivation plays a big part in team spirit as winning does. All teams that start really badly eg Charlton tend to get depressed and it is essential to get a reasonable start to maintain momentum. I think Svennis has that ability, thats why women like him, he has that aura, you just cannot help liking him. Before he was appointed the number of City fans were against it, but after seeing the press conference, the mood changed. Pearce did not have that. Time will tell.
