'If It's Football, It's Vital'

MCFC Monday Round Up

A goalkeeper is now believed to be the number one priority for Sven after it was confirmed that Andreas Isaksson had fractured his thumb and will miss the first month of the season.

The tabloids are never slow to jump on the bandwagon and have City linked with Scott Carson, Carlo Cudicini and Marco Amelia.

Carson, however, is overvalued at £9 million and Cudicini is unlikely to be released by Chelsea whilst doubts remain over Cech's fitness.

That makes Livorno's Amelia the most likely choice of the three but don't be surprised if Sven surprises the tabloids again and purchases somebody no-one has linked City to.

Saturday's game against Valencia meanwhile was a worthwhile excercise with several of the new lads getting a run out.

The team looked rusty at times, that is only to be expected, but there were obvious glimpses of potential and the signs were that City will threaten a lot more than they did last season.

City are also reported to be on the verge of naming Palermo's Australian midfielder Mark Bresciano as their ninth signing of the summer.

Bresciano will cost City somewhere in the region of £3 million and will provide further competition for midfield places.

Other newspaper reports have City strongly linked with Benfica's Fernandes; as with all those others that have been linked over the summer I'll wait with baited breath on this one.

It's in hand Alphie
any ideear lads on who the new goalkeeper is going to be but ill be honest i do hope isaksson stays as number 1 i think he i a brillant goalkeeper with a great future a head of him cos he is still young
dunne deal
sw6cfc, thanks for that, DD, please do not worry about Izaksson, He is only in his early 20's and will get better all the time, he is cuirrently Sweden's number 1 and I am sure he will be with City for a long time yet. The papers seem to think it is between Carson, Cuduchini and Amelia, so my guess is that it is somene completely different, but who knows with Svennis until the player has signed.
Buzz Lightyear
well we would hopefully wana be gettin it done ASAP the season is only a few days away and we need a goalkeeper even thou oul kasper played well but he doesn have enough exsperience yet
dunne deal
you do realise your club has just signed an australian international from palermo in seria a. Marco Bresciano.
Tom, if this is the case, where is your source, It would appear that as of writing this comment, the offical site does not confirm your scoop.
Buzz Lightyear
Lots of serious rumours regarding Bresciano but obviously his official transfer registration has not as yet been lodged with the Premier League.
AlphieB's the nearest you get to a rumour from Svennis is 'Yes he's a good player' Loves to keep it tight, otherwise it ups the price, I think he is more concerned with getting a goalie rather than another midefielder, does anyone know apart from SWP good right wingers?
Buzz Lightyear
Lennon ???
the looks of things is that we r going no progress what so ever fot a new goalkeeper we realy need to sign one 2day if any day. R 1st match is 4 days away and we need the new goalkeeper to get use to the players b4 the season starts
dunne deal
DD if he does not sign a goalkeeper before the westham game, I would still have confidence in either hart or scmikes to do their best, these are good young goalies, just that they lack premier experience, but the only way they are going to get that is by playing. Remember both these have been out on loan and played first team football in the lower leagues. and in the words of Captain mainwareing, dont panic, until Corporal jones asks for permission to do so.
Buzz Lightyear
ha ha i no wat ya mean but they dnt have enough exsperience to pla in the premiership yet anyway
dunne deal
DD, I know that, but I trust in SGE to recognise talent when he sees it, His job now is to get them to play as a team, that is the difficult bit, but because he his such a great motivator it will happen sooner than later, but I hope that if we do not have a good start, the fans start to get on the players' backs. Good news is that the work permits have arrived and everyone who is fit is available to play.
Buzz Lightyear
Getting close to picking the team guys and the formation, he has gone with only one wide man out on the left so far and one striker, changing this late in the game to the usual 442. Question is do you go to WHU and play it save and get a point or do you risk it and try to win it. for my money I dont like 451 and think you are always on the back foot. so Hart/new guy, Richards, Dunne Corluka, Garrido, Elano, Ireland, Geovanni, Petrov, Bianchi, Corradi, subs, Schmikes/Hart , Bojinov, Onuoha,Harmann,Johnson. Have gone with B & C upfront, purely because they are both italian and Corradi has premier experience. If Svennis does pick this team it is entirely coincidental and the first time ever that I have been right.
Buzz Lightyear
As expected I have to change the line up immediately as we are told that Bojinov and corluka are unlikely to take part, but if that was the case why were we trying to rush through the work permits. however Onuoha comes in for Corluka, Samaras for Bojinnov and Sun for Onuoha on bench or Sun for Corluka. Hard this year, last year you could have photocopied the team for the 38 games.
Buzz Lightyear
I'm expecting big things from you this season. Top 6 finish.
So no goalie still guys, who is gonna start today between the sticks for you?
