England Need Cover at the back

England Need Cover at the back

Micah Richards, the 19 year old 'right back' (according to the press anyway) was simply superb at centre half along side Richard Dunne yesterday.

Micah was always destined to be a central defender, yet simply couldnt get into the back two with Dunne and Distin there. Instead with him having such great talent he was chucked in at right back. And what did he do?...He got in the England squad in that position. Thats how good he is.

Yesterday he shown the rest of the Prem how good a centre half he is. He was an absolute monster yesterday. He won every header and chased every ball at twice the pace of the other players.

Sky sports and other news sites all rated his performances yesterday as a '9 out of 10' even with the brilliance of other performances. Chris Kamara on 'Goals on Sunday' also praised the defender and belives he will go onto be a England regular in his Natural position of Centre half..

Just how good a player have we got here?..For me, 30millions worth...Actually Priceless

And i give it 2 years before he takes the captaincy. (Im sure Dunne will have something to say about that though)

With the takeover complete we are now in a position to hold on to our star players. I can see Micah along with Nedum breaking into the England set-up this season and possibly Michael Johnson within the next couple of years who can only improve with the quality of the type of players around him. I know it is early days yet but I can see us breaking into the top four within the next three years when most of our siginings will be at their peak.

micah is in my fantasy football team ahead of sol - but i would ather have campbell play for england at centre back. Nugent, Taylor and o'neil are all competing for england place from us (and jamo should have been in there for the last year) - but i dont see any of them making it. Spineless steve played micah for the same reason he played nuggent - a publicity stunt to show he wasnt just picking the same playors week in week out. Whilst both deserved there places, the exclusion of sol, jamo and matty, and the inclusion of downing and lampard last season all but proved he would stick to those he knew. the unimaginative sod.

Richards endured serious injury problems last season with Ingerland duties compounding them - its possibly too soon for the lad - do not want a burn out.

Richards will be disappointed not to make the team and if he is to play and Svennis is going to play him left of centre, then he should be positioned there. this would give him more practise on that side and perhaps cement his place in the side, although I see that he is comfortable in whatever position you play him at the back.
