Progress: Without a doubt

Progress: Without a doubt

The Sven revolution has certainly gained widespread support but still we have our fair share of doom mongers amongst our support. Sometimes to assess progress we need to take a step back rather than focus on the present. In doing so we can evaluate more clearly and identify how far our great club has moved on. Below are two teams that could have represented City in recent times. Team (A) managed by Stuart Pearce takes on Sven`s best eleven (team B). Form your own opinion on which side would win, and note all of this has all taken shape in less than twelve incredible months.

Team (A). Manchester City twelve months ago and with players no longer on the pay roll.

Manager Pearce, Assistant Wigley, Keeper Weaver, Defence, Mills, Distin, Mills, Thatcher, Midfield, Sinclair, Trabelsi, Barton, Miller, Forwards, Corradi, Dickov.

Team (B). Manchester City now. Manager Sven, Assistant Backer, Keeper, perm any from Kasper, Hart, Isaksson, Defence Corluka, Dunne, Richards, Garrido, Midfield, Geovanni. Elano, Hamann, Petrov, Forwards, Mpenza, Bianchi.

Apart from the massive drop in the player`s average age, team (B) is far superior.

Don`t doubt the progress for it is plain to see. It just seems sometimes we forget the past all too quickly. In my opinion only Two from team (A) would be worthy of playing in team (B); now that is some achievement in such a short space of time. !!!!!

Pearce's absymal statistical record ranked alongside Alan Ball's MCFC tenure unfortunately and his tactics were one dimensional. Game plan goes wrong, panic. There were a few assassins in his squad and they would probably have scythed down half of the New City team in one paced frustration. I'd go for 1 or 2 nil to the current team on recent evidence.

I noticed against Britol City that they played Bianchi close marked and he was off loading to Mpenza and then in the second half they backed off him and that gave him the chance to score, against Blackburn they close marked him but with another defender just off him. Black burn played it well and if I can see that then SGE can also, I thinlks thats why he initially he went from 4411 to 442, but by then I dont think we are used to changing systems part way through a game, because changing systems last season came about every six months, so it still is a learning curve. It seems he is reluctant to play Elano and Geovanni together, anyone any ideas why this might be?

Could be Svennis sees the Brazilian Combo has currently too lightweight although Geo looks as if he like sto get stuck in, Buzz. That view might change as they acclimatise. I am increasingly sure of a very strong second half of the season for us.
