City suffer striker drought

Darius Vassell is the latest forward to join the City injury list after injuring his knee before the Reading game at the weekend.

Sven Goran Eriksson confirmed the injury today saying of Vassell:

'He has a knee problem, which I don't think is a serious one, but I think he's out for a couple of weeks.'

Vassell joins Emile Mpenza as a casualty from the weekend after the Belgian striker was taken off at half time with a hamstring problem.

The two join long term casualty, Valeri Bojinov, and Rolando Bianchi in the treatment room leaving Sven with just Georgios Samaras as his one fit striker for the Wigan trip.

Vedran Corluka and Elano are also minor doubts for the Wigan game with Sven telling the official website:

'Elano has had to do a lot of travelling again to get back (from South America) and it's always a risk when you are a little bit tired and not 100% match fit.

'Vedran Corluka had two very heavy games on very heavy pitches, so that's a risk too, but they came off the pitch early enough so not to do any further damage.

'But I talked to the doctor and physios and they think that maybe all will be available next weekend, but they are not sure at this stage.'

So Georgie boy to lead the attack at Wigan? Opinions please.

Sven's comments last night were very interesting when he said "There will be a BIG BIG signing in January". Will this be Kaka or Messi or both ???
alphieblues
Big Fat Sam joining the coaching staff when Newcastle push him ..... Well he would be a big signing
ronin
Seriously ....... Got to be a forward for me. But who is major league and available? Adriano is linked but too much baggage. Beyond that who knows.
ronin
Are you sure that Rolando Bianchi is injury ?!
city 81
I think both Bianchi & Mpenza will be available at the weekend.
alphieblues
It is not easy running the line on your own and there is a lot of running to do. Personally I think Sam and Ronny prefer to have a partner. Mpenza does his best and gives 100% each time, but just lacks that something. I watched city legends on Sky monday and Kenny Clements and Ian Cheeseman think that Anelka fits into Svens system. However with the rumours that Anelka caused problems last time, would he be a good signing?
Buzz Lightyear
Of course Anelka fits the system, he's perfect for 451. But there are those handlers and the baggage, also strongly linked with OT. He was also very obviously showcasing himself against them this w/e - but revealed a fatal shelfishness in addition to his goal. I'd probably take him back - also think Doyle can be a useful addition.

I see Elano is out on Saturday a big chance for Geo, just hope Bianchi is fit to show what he can do.
alphieblues
Agree Alphie, Elano hasn't been at his best and will benefit from the lay off. Great chance for Geo to impress. Any idea when Johnson is back fit?
Craig Cain
I think Michael will be back for the Spurs game.
alphieblues
