True Blue Grit

If ever a result encapsulated Manchester City's renaissance under Sven-Goran Eriksson's leadership, then this was surely it...

To a man, City met Bolton's undoubtedly dogged, experienced and resilient team head on. City went toe to toe with them today and exposed their frail defence.

This was a real team performance in every sense of the word.

What will have thrilled Blues worldwide was the way the team fought back from a goal behind at half time to take control and finally slay a Bolton side who looked increasingly disjointed after just about bossing the majority of the first half.

Svennis's introduction of Etuhu at half time and the subsequent change to a 4-4-2 formation was something of a managerial masterstroke as the Blues began to attack in waves. In the end a 6-2 er would not have been unjust.

I sense another shrewd Iceman move in his handling of Bianchi. He's kept the lad on a leash since the opening day of the season and the lad's hunger shows. If he can reign in the offsides, we could be on to a match winner here.

So City continue to confound their critics who will be dumbfounded at their inability to say 'I told you so' by mid December.

The squad's reinforcements are now only two to three weeks away. If General Eriksson can keep this side's belief and spirit strong, then there is no reason why we can't make New Year's Day handily placed for the big push over the top.

Now bring on Tottenham Hostpur at Fortress Eastlands and a myriad of Cup scores to settle!

I thought Vassell worked his socks off, if only he could finish without having to think about it. Bianchi, I hope the rumours that he is going are way off the mark. I just think he cannot run the line on his own in a 451 but when he has a partner, that is better, but he needs a good run and given a few more games with DV, who is looking sharp, then we can score goals. Johnson plays exceptionally well with Hamann as his foil. JB you are right when you say it was a team performance. I think Elano is fit but cold weather and hamstrings do not mix and Svennis did not gamble. That rubbishes the one man team theory. I have my doubts about Isaksson, he made some good saves, but the defense seem unsure whether to leave the ball or not. A brilliant result but should have buried them sooner.

City fans are right up for Tuesday, merlin. We owe Spurs big time cup wise down the years and last weeks hand goal injustice will motivate the fans and the players no end.

A great performance today showing courage and determination, however not to put too much of a dampener on proceedings I am still concerned with our defensive line-up. Micah to me is playing out of position, too many times he receives the ball on his left and has to turn inside to get on his right foot which puts him and the defence under unnecessary pressure. Put him at right back where he will be far more effective and switch Corluka into the midle. Having said all that full marks to Vassell and Bianchi who could develop into a a partnership to reckon with.

The timing of the Bolton result is ideal. It's come at a time when our young squad look to have been feeling the pace a little and were in need of a booster. Eastlands will be rocking on tuesday night!

At last we got top spot on MOTD last night. It was good to see Lawro almost choke on his words trying to say something good about us. Full marks to the young kids that have come in we must have one of the best Acadamies in the country, and to think there is still the likes of Logan, Miller, Sturridge, and Evans champing at the bit. Sven must be amazed at what he has inherited along with his shrewd signings.

Great character to come back. Cannot understand the experiment with Johnson (when Geo is on the bench)? Fernandes again disapointing. Etuhu has showed that he is comfortable on the ball and is another plus from the season. Garrido played with a terrific freedom and tore them apart - albeit with the game stretched. Again, good spells of possession and inter-play. Results have gone our way this w/e.
