Barton to Sign New Deal

Reports coming out of Eastlands suggest that the Joey Barton contract row is nearing a resolution.

Barton, it is believed, is to be offered an improvement on the original deal offered that will see him taking a larger basic salary rather than it being dependent on the teams results.

Barton has had to contend with booing from his own supporters as a result of his decision to go public with a transfer request the day before the January transfer window closed. Yesterday those boos were less pronounced as Barton did his talking on the pitch with a man of the match performance.

Despite the supporters appearing to welcome Barton back into the fold, 90% of supporters polled on this site believe Barton acted incorrectly by attempting to hold the club to ransom. That is not to say that everyone wants Barton out, just that he acted naively at best by going public with his contract demands.
