Slight change of tack but I have to say that some the goals conceded recently by one of his rivals for the England slot, Fraser Forster, have been pretty poor. I know Southampton overall appear to have hit a flat spot so he is being exposed a bit more but even so I still think he hasn't done very well on a personal level.

Now I haven't been following the media too hotly recently but I'm not sure his performances have been the subject of too much scrutiny or have I missed something. He has after all been touted by the media as possibly "England's No 1 Stopper" (TM the British Media).?

He's finally signed a new deal

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Team-news/2014/December/Joe-Hart-signs-n...

Joe Hart has committed his long-term future to the Club, agreeing terms on a new contract at the Etihad Stadium which will run until the end of the 2018/19 season.

The England international, 27, joins fellow two-time Barclays Premier League champions Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Aleksandar Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva in signing a new deal in 2014.

It’s a contract that will keep Joe at City until 2019, at which point he will have been at the club for 13 years.

He told mcfc.co.uk: “I’m really happy, I’ve been here a long time now and I want to keep that going.

“The new deal means I get to stay longer – the Club’s doing amazing things at the moment, we’ve created history and we want to keep doing that.

“Wanting to stay here was never going to be an issue for me - I’ve loved every moment since I joined. .......................

Glad Hart has signed, he has to be in the top ten of World keepers, and still young for a keeper.

I've been more impressed with him recently than ever before. He's started to look world class standard.

Is he supposed to stay on his line when that Baines free kick comes in?

Split second decision, didn't work for him this time.

Suspect people would be asking why he didn't come off his line if the goal had gone in anyway!

If he's not going to reach it, then I guess the answer is yes. For me, looks like he misjudged the flight and/or speed of the ball. A complete air flap, a goalkeepers worst nightmare.

As BBC put it,

"All afternoon, England goalkeeper Joe Hart has struggled to deal with Leighton Baines's deliveries and he pays the ultimate price this time as he is caught in two minds about coming for it and Steven Naismith capitalises to glance the ball home."

I need to see it again really with a better picture than I had on the feed I was using. Was a bitch of a ball in from Baines to be sure (why do we so rarely deliver set piece balls into the box with that venom?).

My initial reaction was that if he decided to come (and it was probably the right decision) he ought to have beaten Naismith to the ball but it was a fine margin.

The other question I would ask is about the number of free kicks we have started conceding on the edge of the penalty area which creates this pressure. Seems they are climbing back into the levels we reached when Nastasic was in the side.

Damned if you do....

Just listening to the commentary and I think they're being harsh on him. It was a brilliant delivery and Naismith did brilliantly to get there before Hart.

If the finger of blame needs pointing it should be pointed at Zaba for giving away yet another stupid free kick in a dangerous area.

I thought several of the free kicks we conceded were incredibly soft

I wouldn't disagree at all fifth - some of the opposition took to the turf very easily. Naismith was a particular culprit. Difficult to know how to counter that as they know that if you hold off making a challenge they have 'won' that battle anyhow.

I think that maybe the bigger concern is our recent inability to hold onto and build upon leads. it took us long enough to get in front today, why concede so quickly - again!
