It's not about being right or wrong. It's a discussion with people sharing opinions.

Yeah, but there are still merits to people's opinions.

Increasingly it is me having to explain to people why they are wrong.

If you do a 'quote' or a 'reply' Kenny the emoticons appear in the window to the left of the reply box. When you finish your sentence or paragraph then just put your curser over whichever emoticon you want and click the mouse once. Like shelling peas. :hat off:

For what its worth...I believe this two fisted punching is a load of nonsense. If Hart had gone for the ball with a catch attempt then I am sure at least one of his hands would have met with the ball so deviating it's course, alternately going for the single fist punch would have enabled him to still have a chance of reaching the ball with more control of his upper body which would have allowed him to lean into Naithsmith.
Whatever, it was a goal caused by the soft fouls we are giving away in the area followed up by piss poor marking. Our defence at the moment, still has many flaws.
:doh!:

He does punch rather a lot. It's an uncertain game as the ball can come off any part of your fist unless you are very precise.

I'd say he's being coached to punch rather than catch given who his coaches have been over the past 5 years.

He is an experienced keeper surely he makes the decision to punch or catch as he sees fit and it is nothing to do with how he is being coached.

If he's being coached to punch which I believe is likely given he's had foreign coaches the past 5 years and decides to ignore that coaching then I can't see the boss being too enamoured with him, can you?

It could also be argued that punching is less risky than catching, as you need to get less right to get the ball safe. I agree with Bdubz - it's what he's being coached to do

est option - provided you can fesibly catch it.

I always understood should be the last resort when you are heavily under pressure and the catch is fraught with risks.

If you go into every aerial challenge, as a keeper, thinking of punching first then you will give up a lot of chances and repeatedly lose possession to the other side - often inside your own 18 yard box.

Joe has been criticised in the past for not catching - even shots he punched or deflected away into danger areas and we've conceded. The obvious times have been in the CL where any slight error gives up a goal like against Munich in the 'Tevezgate' game.

I had thought he'd learned the error of his ways though and can't recall too many of late, but those figures in BD's post show he's punched many more times than De Gea or any of the other keepers.

He didn't misjudge it all, he was just beaten to it. There is a point in bemoaning the concession of the free because it was a stupid needless challenge. I think it was Ferna who was supposed to be marking Naismith yet allowed him a free header.

The only criticism I have of Hart is that perhaps he was a bit slow to come out, that's being hypercritical though.

Would agree with you, he looked slow to come out to the free kick.

I think he coaching could possibly be the reason and yet I cannot help thinking that great keeper that he is, he likes a bit of 'showboating' now and then.
eg The two fisted punch, the running out to the edge of the area and then waiting with the ball in his hands etc.
Maybe I'm being to harsh on him but I wish he wouldn't do these things.

Even if he was a bot slow in getting out from his line, he still would have gotten closer to the ball with a one handed attempted punch.
Try it, put your hands together and jump up and see how far up a wall you can reach then try with one hand.
Hope you're all going outside to try this now! Ha Ha

Whilst I think Hart is a very good keeper I could imagine us with someone else, someone better and thinking 'You know what, Hart was good but he wasn't quite as good as I thought, this guy on the other hand . . . '

There are better out there but not worth paying what you'd need to bring them in.

You'd probably have to add up the number of points Big Joe actually loses us each season, and bearing in mind we tend to win more than we lose or draw it might not be that many.

Alternatively add up the number of games he wins us, probably not all that many either since the boys are usually doing the business down the other end of the pitch.
