:yeh: :yeh: :yeh:

77 L O N G days after City last took to the pitch in a competitive fixture and after a summer of flying all around the world, Pellegrini's men take to the pitch against WBA at the Hawthorns and The Manager Who Refuses To Go Away. Yes, Tony Pulis, the man whose dislike of all things Sky Blue stems from THAT famous day in May 1999 when he saw his Gillingham side cruising to a 2-0 win at Wembley only for Kevin Horlock and Paul Dichov  to p*ss on his firework and take the game to extra time. The rest, as they say, is history which is odd because, as is so regularly pointed out by fans of rival clubs, we don't have any.

(as an aside and although I have posted this separately this BBC link will prove otherwise. Appears City have existed for 135 years - fancy that?....http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/my-premier-league-life)

Anyway, back to the game in hand.......

City will doubtless go into this game out of the top three and with 'Pellegrini Under Pressure' (TM the media), 'without any wins in the league this season' and already 'playing catch up on their title rivals'..........but that is enough of the easy and vacuous headlines favoured by our 'friends' in the media.....

Assuming that Pellegrini is good to his word and continues to give our Argentinian contingent leave of absence following their extended run in the Copa America then the choices seem pretty limited. Clichy's absence should see Kolarov positioned at left back alongside Mangala who enters his second season at the club where there will be little forgiveness for errors - the time for adjustment is over, it is time to earn your corn and prove your worth. Club Captain Kompany will doubtless start hoping to out the hours of last season and the performance against Stuttgart out of his mind. We REALLY could do with the old imperious VK back rather than the imposter that seems to have been inhabiting his body recently. Tours is likely to be partnered by one of the twins and Silva and Nasri are likely to be accompanied by new signing Raheem Sterling and Wilfried Bony at the pointy end of the team. Wantaway Edin I'm SO UNHAPPY Dzeko is still likely to be haunting the bench looking thoroughly miserable. Bless.

As for WBA they have been joined by Liverpool reject Ricky Lambert, another of Brenda's failed experiments which seems to have been glossed over by the Liverpool infested world of punditry. Mulumbu has moved on so at they will have to find someone else to scythe through David Silva - my money is on James McClean who has signed from Wigan.

Tony Pulis knows how to organise a team that is for sure and our back line had better be on guard with their necks at the ready to repel the aerial threat he poses.

No points on offer but I enter this season wondering just hoe many games City will go before they score from a corner

Football IS BACK :yeh: :yeh: :yeh:

Good stuff Skoorb.

Looking forward to this although don't like the fact we've to wait until Monday night. Also don't like the fact that we're playing Pulis away in our first game but thems the breaks, hopefully we hit the ground running.

By the by, Dzeko won't be on the bench as he's currently in Rome where he was welcomed at the airport by a crowd of Roma fans, due to have his medical today and the transfer to made official.

Of course he will - daft of me to miss that but then I have been so numbed by the whole protracted nature of his departure I forgot! Maybe they could sit a cardboard cut out of him there for old times sake. I will miss his miserable, depressed, glum look as he wrestles to put in his shin pads (I never know why subs don't wear those from the get go. I mean they're not that uncomfortable for goodness sake  :off topic:

Back on track I'm not a fan of us starting our campaign on Monday evening either as the shameless manipulation of the fixtures by the TV companies to eek out the tension and drama continues

It seems that the extended absences of the Argentinian contingent may have been a bit of 'smoke and mirrors' - Aguero & co have been declared fit for the season's opener....

On a positive note, I believe the team that started their campaign on Monday night went on to win the league in each of the last 4 seasons

Just had a re-run of the 11/12 season Ed scored some vital goals that season and I will miss him, but he fell he took his teddy home because he was overlooked.

Any news of the three sent home are well?

Not sure reading your post Skoorb, without the benefit of any run outs for our South Americans if it would be wise to expose them straight off, rather than ease them in gradually.

Past 5 seasons according to 5Live earlier - which obviously also applies to the Baggies chances.

We need Kun to lead our line, he is vital for our chances to win this first game. Understand home based fans hate Mon nights and the early Sat game, bur for fans on the other side of the World these are the most time friendly fixtures for us. I will even watch Spurs hoping they can burst King Louis's balloon. Glad the season will start today, come on City.

We start the season in the bottom half of the table

Pellegrini Out :68: (should we have a poll on which pundit mentions Pellegrini Being Under Pressure before kick off?)

They'd be right though, as all managers are under pressure. If we don't win tomorrow and don't take 3 points from Chelsea next Sunday, it won't just be the meedja on his back

The last time, in recent years of course, Man City failed to retain the title we came back the year after to reclaim the top prize and the bid to wrestle back the Premier League title from the clutches of Chelsea, others will feel they've got a say in the destination of this mind, begins on Monday.

A live Sky Sports meeting with Tony Pulis' West Brom at the Hawthorns awaits us, with Manuel Pellegrini going into this knowing his futures secured after a new deal was signed.

I'll be surprised if any of our South American contingent start on Monday - a similar policy was adopted for the majority of them following the World Cup last season.

First game of the season, and the media chooses to print a very dubious negative story about Raheem Sterling.

Call me paranoid, but the "incident" happened a few days ago, and as we all know, timing is everything
