So BT Sport have taken over all the rights to braid cast the Champions League.

How happy is everyone with their standard of commentary so far?

I have to say I was not desperately impressed with their coverage of our game against Juventus but that may well have been coloured by our result!

However I found myself somewhat agog this evening listening to Martin Keown summarising Arsenal played Olympiakos. Talk about bias

- Ospina dropped the ball over the line from a corner, the goal is given by the fifth official behind the goal line and he bangs on about "I don't know how he can give that" whilst Keown up in the gods and with no goal line technology and poor tv angles is adamant that it wasn't a goal

- Sanchez gets booked for kicking the ball away and "I'm not sure that's necessary"

- Gabriel slides in with both feet, studs up and catches an opponent and gets a yellow card which is "just about right". Hmm looked like a red to me an pretty sure if the same happened to Walcott or Ozil etc I think he'd see it differently.

Poor. He may be an ex-Arsenal player but I am so tired of the bias we find in the summarisers. He is being paid to do a professional job and not just pander to the Tarquins etc

I know. A pipe dream.

BT Sport have Michael Monotone Owen as a commentator.

I think that tells you all you need to know about their professional standards.

Overall, Sky and BT are stuffed to the gunnels with ex-rag, scouse and arse players, hence the blatant bias. When are they going to redress this imbalance with some City guys? I'm not holding my breath.

When our support is big enough to impact on their ratings.

In my opinion we are big enough now to have fair representation in the media. They are ignoring us in the forlorn hope we will fade away at some point.

It doesn't matter how big the club is in terms of wealth or current success if our fan base is still dwarfed by that of the dippers and rags, naturally the TV companies are going to pander to the larger fanbases as this is what earns them their money.

Fair point, BD, but our fan base IS growing and at some point they will simply have to take note of it and address the imbalance.

Agree Rising, I reckon that it will take around 20 years of sustained success though for that to happen though.

The reporting on the BBC wasn't any better. Chelsea loses to Porto, not necessarily a power house, and the BBC says "they'll be a great team at home, others will be wary about that" instead of "wow, Chelsea shit the bed and should have won". Meanwhile, we lose to last years runners up, and it's as if we're the worst team in the world.

I can guarantee you if we win tonight the feeling will be "well, they should have won by more goals"

To be honest, I've never based the quality of football coverage on how good \bad, biased \unbiased the commentary is. It's traditionally piss poor, so usually just ignore it. Far more concerned with what the quality is like on the pitch

My Twitter timeline was full of City fans 'concerned' about the standard of commentary and analysis of the game on Saturday.

McPointalot doesn't seem to like City any more than any of the other pundits I notice. Bastard played for us, surely he can come up with one or two positives?

There's the rub. The media will inevitably tell us that they have plenty of "pundits" who have turned out for City in the past. Haman, McPointalot, Mills, Nial Quinn etc. This, they will point out is "fair and balanced", when in reality, we all know that each and every one of these pundits either absolutely hates us or supports another team more than they do City.

The only pundits who genuinely seem fair and balanced (ie don't actually hate us) are Lee Dixon and Trevor Sinclair, with the occasional bit of Rodney Marsh thrown in (although sometimes I wonder if he doesn't hate us as well!)

As BD points out, our fanbase is still not considered significantly big enough, nor our former players famous enough to impact on the ratings the way the "Big 4" players and teams do.

That is currently changing, but it will take a fair while to overturn the media balance, as most of the commentators are pretty much in jobs for life

Savage was truly awful last night confirming my belief that none of the broadcasters have a clue. How anyone can justify giving that guy money for the tripe he delivered yesterday is beyond me. They must think he appeals to the 'average man in the street' when in fact he's likely to just get a good hiding for being an utterly annoying twat. :hit:

I think that there is a deal of pandering to the fan bases and their constituents in the rag and scouser camps BUT I have to wonder why the chosen pundits seem unable to put aside their personal prejudices and chomp with reasonable, balanced, and heaven forfend....insightful, comments?

I would be AMAZED if any Liverpool fans were watching our game last evening and certainly no rags would have tuned into the half time and full time stuff back in the BT Sport studio covering our game with McPointalot and Ian Wright. So why can't McPointalot say ANYTHING nice?

I have previously found Ian Wright annoying but fair play he was actually pretty decent last evening so :hat off: At least he seemed even handed which is all I ask. Criticise when it is necessary but give credit when it is due.

Savage was painful in the extreme. How I was silly enough to stick with it for the first half makes me question my own sanity.
Mute button second half did the trick.
