Having dispatched Bournemouth on Saturday and dealt a massive blow to the hacks who were waiting with their "City can't win without Aguero and Silva" headlines, the boys in Sky Blue return to Champions League action on Wednesday when Game Day 3 arrives.

In the first of the back to back fixtures which the CL group stage format delivers City will have to show resilience and character against the side which has won the Europa League two seasons in a row. Although they currently sit 12th in La Liga and boasting only indifferent domestic form (2 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats) it should be noted that they recently beat Barcelona and put 3 past Borussia MGladbach. On a brighter note they do not appear to travel well having won none of their away fixtures so far this season but that is just the sort of statistic that gives me the willies  given City's uncanny knack of being the opponents against whom the player who hasn't scored for three seasons decides to get a hat trick. :doh!!!:

Once again City will go into this game striped of the talents of Aguero and Silva. Although Sterling delivered a performance which took some of the wind out of the seals of the critics regarding his finishing (his second against Bournemouth was almost Aguero-like) he will be coming up against much tougher opponents on Wednesday. However, with his pace and movement and the vision and unselfishness of Kevin De Bruyne it may well be that his role in playing behind Bony might well be retained by The Engineer.

By far the biggest decision facing Pellegrini will be with regard to his club captain. Vincent Kompany was benched on Saturday as Pellegrini did not feel that he had had sufficient training under his belt on his return from injury despite his 57 minute cameo for Belgium in midweek. Pellegrini cannot be accused of not making his views regarding Kompany's fitness known to Mark Wilmots the Belgian coach and his captain and so I suspect that there was an element of a marker being put down also. Whether he will choose to reinforce the message again against Sevilla is the big question. Given Kompany's seemingly increasing fragility when recovering from injury I would not at all be surprised to see VK keeping his tracksuit on for this one and perhaps returning for there derby at the weekend.

In respect of other injured players, Kolarov remains out of commission along with Delph and Clichy although the latter two may well be available for the weekend leaving Zabaleta and Sagna to retain their fullback positions for one more fixture at least. Nasri appears to have collected a hamstring injury (wtf is it with our player's hamstrings this season?) which might explain why he was so ineffective after coming onto the pitch against Bournemouth. I know he came on with the game won but I struggled to see him engage with the play at all during the extended highlights that I watched. Whether this was entirely down to an injury or disinterest only he will know. I do have a feeling that he is one of those players who get the hump big time if they are not first pick and given the performances so far this season of De Bruyne (less so Sterling but even he IS brighter than Nasri) I could quite easily see Le Petit Prince of Marseilles mentally downing tools. I doubt that there is any City fan who would play Nasri ahead of De Bruyne right now.

Tour's withdrawal at half time last weekend with the score at 4-1 was almost certainly a protective measure with this game and the derby looming so he too is likely to start at the Etihad on Wednesday.

I was massively impressed with the noise being generated inside the stadium last weekend and just hope that a similar atmosphere can being created by the fans on Wednesday. Now I understand that it is relatively easy to be singing Blue Moon with gusto when your side is leading 4-1 at the start of the second half and less so when playing a better quality opposition and with the score a tense 0-0, but if we can manage to raise the spirits and generate the sort of sounds reverberating around the expanded Etihad on a European night it would be great  The atmosphere has surely got to transmit itself to the players and give them a lift whilst affecting their opponents so I sincerely hope we can generate some noise this Wednesday and help the players deliver a positive result and an advantage in the group standings.

Come on City!

Nice one Skoorb.

I think we need to get Vinnie back in before the derby, the question for me is who should he replace? I'm leaning toward Otamendi as the Vinnie/Mangala partnership at the beginning of the season seemed to be working really well.

Barring injury I'd be amazed if Vinnie didn't play in this game and on Sunday. It's difficult to argue against a pairing that had 5 clean sheets out of 5.
To Yaya or not to Yaya? That is the question.

Mangala hasn't done a lot wrong so would hope that he will partner VK4 should he return to the fray. Having said that they will no doubt need to gather their collective wits about them and hope the midfield 'shield' in front of them do the same.

Following the last CL game I was of the opinion that both Ferns and Yaya should play with Dinho as the most advanced to combat Yaya's defensive issues but having watched how we set up on Saturday I'd be tempted to go with the same again with just Vinnie replacing Otamendi.

I think Bony's dropping deep gives us more of a physical presence in the centre of the park and Raheem's pace is a real plus for pressing opposition when they have possession, that pairing up front gives us a better defensive shape than Silva/Aguero does.

Kolarov back in training today so should be in contention for this one. Pellegrini also said maybe next week for Silva, Clichy and Delph.

That's good news. I know Aleks isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'd rather have him than a makeshift LB

Yep, same here, but it does throw up another question - Sagna or Zaba?

Nasri hasn't been reported as injured/unavailable.
I'd personally go Sagna over Zabaleta on this one, but our options in attack maybe pretty limited off the bench.
I agree with Bluedub regarding midfield, and it's reflected in my BTM choice.

Sagna or Zaba? Who's best choice for the dark side match? The other will play tonight methinks

On the one hand Zaba and Navas is the better attacking option, on the other Sagna is quicker in defence and has done little wrong this season. Bearing in mind our defensive vulnerability n Europe, I would start with Sagna but then change to Zaba if necessary. However, whatever Pellegrini decides is OK by me.

Trouble in Shambles square before the match apparently, with Sevilla fans being attacked - by Polish supporters!?
