My dear Blue Friends,

I don't think I will have ever been more relieved to see our heroes take the field against Liverpool tomorrow after a harrowing week in France. To see such normality mindful of the knowledge that whenever I have been up against it in life City is always there to take my mind off things, (of course with less risk of bringing me down further these days!) is sure to give me a lift.

Thank you for the good wishes to myself and my family this week. They were greatly appreciated as we all come to terms with the fact that a war is well and truly under way that will be with us for many years to come.

Many of you will know I work in European aviation route regulation and last Friday we were busy assisting with operations heading south east that you will have seen the results of. The Brits and Irish amongst us had sensed the Charlie Hebdo horror would not be the last of it and that very evening one of the Paris based lads remarked upon it. 60 minutes later he drove into a nightmare, his apartment being a 2 minute walk around the corner to his local bar, The Belle Equipe whose exterior was littered with bodies.

We had left the city ten years ago, and I headed south from the ops centre listening to music completely oblivious until I looked at my phone.

Keen gig goers, we were due to see Electric Six in the city the next night but the band could not enter the country under the State of Emergency but Tuesday night saw the defiant Stiff Little Fingers come to town and we joined them for an emotional night.

Tales continue to be exchanged in the fallout. One of Katie's clients was pulling away in a bus from the Bataclan as the gunmen opened up outside. Sadly one of the lads at MAN trucks where she works was slaughtered inside. The Bata holds strong memories for us, easily my favourite venue in Paris, it's a special place. The week we found out Katie was pregnant with Daisy I remember us going there for a quiet drink at the bar. Seen some great groups at close quarters down the years. When we next go it will be very strange but go we must.

Anyroad, we've some scousers to see off tomorrow.

See you on the Match Thread!

JB

This has united the world in this and the pointless taking the lives of innocent people has always been an enigma, I just fail to see what they hope to gain by their actions because all it brings is more misery and sorrow.

The Bata vows to open again and my respect to Stiff Little Fingers, when so many have cancelled.

Ihave been trying to pen a reply for ages but keep finding that my words are inadequate.

Glad you and yours are safe but saddened that you have been touched by the horrors inflected by these evil people. Stay safe JB.

Glad to hear that you and yours are OK mate. I was at the SLF gig in the much less stressful Edinburgh last Sunday. Kudos to Jake and the lads for carrying on. In the end, it's the only thing to do.

Echo the sentiments here, good to hear you and yours are safe and well JB and I couldn't agree more with your thread title.
