In his first season in charge at New York City FC, Patrick Viera not only secured a place in the MLS post-season play offs, but by steering them to second place in the Eastern Conference behind archrival Red Bulls.

Moreover by finishing second in the Conference Viera's squad have avoided the knockout rounds. that are a feature of this MLS post regular season format details of which are below.

For the team that is playing only it's second season in Major League Soccer this is a significant achievement and one which will surely please the City Football Group owners. After they saw their franchise team finish their inaugural season in a disappointing eighth place and missing out on the play off matches they will be very happy to see the progress that has been made in one of the key components of their overall footballing plan.

Well done Paddy V

If not for that trouncing at the hands of Red Bulls they'd have topped the conference. Remarkable effort all the same especially considering last season's effort.

Second in the league, I have watched a few games and we are a mile away from being a good team like the rival at RedBull

Is Patrick ever coming home or will the lifestyle over there convince him and his family their future is brighter re living standards etc. The weather side of things will only come into play if he were to move to the southwest where it is hot but dry heat compared to the southeast?

Then got shafted 5-0, I have watched them several times this year they are nowhere near what you would call a good side and have been lucky on several occasions.

Still an awful lot better than last season Buzz, which is to Vieira's credit.

I agree BD getting into the top 4 was an achievement, but I wish we had a striker such as BWP who plays for the red half on NY.

we still got stuffed 7-0 in the aggregate games, a game technically we should have won
