Hull City v Manchester City - 5.15pm GMT Mon 26th Dec 2016 Premier League Match Day Thread

Pep's squad start the first of their festive season late evening kick off games with a trip across the pennines to visit the KCOM stadium to take on Mike Phelan's struggling Hull City Tigers.

Playing a side that is anchored to the bottom of the Premier League table, without a win in the league since the beginning of November and with a goal difference of -22 securing all three points should appear a formality for the boys in almost sky blue? Right?

Well I am not counting any chickens. We have seen on previous occasions how City have struggled against teams from the lower regions of the league - rarely able to take an early lead and draw out their opponents, unable to turn their possession stats into a meaningful lead which might offer their porous defence some measure of confidence City have often found themselves almost in an attritional battle which has most Blues nervous every time the ball crosses into our half.

However, the cathartic win over Arsenal where City won a match having been behind at half time for the first time since 2010 (some stat that is) might, just might, provide them with a platform of belief which they can build upon. The side will be bolstered by the return from suspension of Fernandinho although I would have to say that in his absence Fernando stepped up against Arsenal and put in a real shift showing some excellent resilience. Sergio Aguero continues his suspension - hopefully he will be refreshed, focused and back on form for the trip to Candlefield on New Years Eve, We need him firing on all cylinders and moreover we need him scoring with the single opportunity he might be presented with during a game. There is no doubt that this is one area where the leader, Chelsea, have been significantly better than us - Diego Costa has been deadly and the whole team can approach each game knowing that they just need to carve out one chance and he will stick it away. If Aguero can return with that kind of form then we may find ourselves relaxing a bit and the team becoming more confident.

Hull's injury list is long but I am sorry to say I know little about them to know whether they will be missed. Aside from Aguero's enforced absence City will be missing Kompany, Gundogan, Zabaleta and Delph. Whether Stones will be returned to a starting berth is anyone's guess. After retaining the same starting back four in two consecutive games an enforced change would be required given Zabaleta's absence but will Pep stick with the rest or will he reach into his Tactical Sorting Hat and pull out a different choice? Your guess is as good as mine.

He will be facing his first Christmas and New Year Schedule in the Premier League - no winter break to recharge the batteries but the full on relentless sequence of games that tax the best teams. The first task is not to squander the vital win secured at the Etihad last weekend. Get that job done and we can turn to the significant task of taking on the People's Champions on their home turf on New Years Eve.

Come On City!!!

Great review Skoorb once again. I am not sure if Stones will come back into this match, but it would be ideal bearing in mind that Liverpool follow shortly behind the Hull match.

I have a lot of time for Stones and think he is quality if he manages to keep his feet firmly on the ground.

I will be worried if we do not come away from the bottom club with all three points.

Another top review, the truth is we have a good away record and if we can't beat HULL then I think our title tilt is about over. I would go with a back three and no full backs, they will definitely park the bus, so we need to go for that early goal to settle nerves. Will Stones return, I think yes.

Our trouble over the years has been to go into these games not fully committed, this has to change sooner than later.

A win v Hull and a draw against the preordained national champions is the minimum Xmas return.
30 minutes for Fern to ease him back for the scousers.

Skoorb- thanks for the great buildups.

Right. Christmas is over. No time for any more gifts. Time to get this job done.

Welcome back Fernandinho :-)

I'm cooking dinner for 11 of us at 5pm and guess what...? Yep, I won't have a hope in hell of watching the game Looks like i'll have to rely on watching the highlights in the morning.

Poor timing in the extreme. We are having our main family gathering today too but with dinner planned for a 2pm kick off I have a decent chance of making the game (especially given that Skoorb Jr 1 and Skoorb Jr 3 are also City fans) so am hoping we can build watching the game into the schedule (as opposed to watching the Bake Off Pt 2!). Fingers crossed

I could, I suppose although its finding the time to watch before I end up writing articles about the game in the morning. By then i'll have watched the highlights and so that defeats the object - in my eyes anyway.

No Sané, which means he has could have been on the Pop, **cking after midnight, injured or just dropped.

He needs to get some game time, this lad has talent.

With the earlier results, this game is the latest in a long line of "must wins"
Do not c**k it up, City.

Sensing some caution in that Pep lineup with Nolito Dickov up front.

This is a very big make sure game for us.

The abysmal Hull have won only 2 games at home in the league all season the last one nearly 2 months ago.
