BD has nailed it pretty much.

One of the great frustrations that I have with football is that the role of the defenders has never received the attentionI felt it has deserved. The recent spotlight on the role that Pep's initial season brought with Zaba and Clichy 'inverting' in the early weeks followed by the money spent on Walker and Mendy has actually brought the role of that position front and centre. About time - Pep has shown just how critical they are within his system.

Whilst there has been much comment and praise heaped upon the way in which forwards and/or midfielders link up and at times seem to 'telepathically' be aware of the runs of their team mates up front, there has been little or no credit given to the application of similar sorts of skills of anticipation and reading your defensive partner's game at the back. The ability to judge your position in relation to your defensive team mate, to adjust where you move to in reaction to them being out of the game etc requires just as much anticipation and practice as it does when working on the one two's we so appreciate at the other end of the pitch. We saw when Kompany returned against Leicester how his judgement of position and anticipation of Vardy's movement was just fractionally off as he was still fine tuning his 'playing radar', that he committed a foul and was frankly lucky to remain on the pitch.

So much of the time the work of a defender is unspectacular that it goes unnoticed or is undervalued. I usually end up chewing the armchair when a defender blocks a dangerous cross the commentator pipes up with "....and the winger has won a corner there" or a tackle is made and the defender emerges with the ball....."he managed to get away with that one".....

Eric left out of the squad tonight. He's ours.
Mind you, I said that about £lexis.

More smoke and mirrors from the Bilbao manager Ziganda.......??

“He hasn’t rested well, he hasn’t slept well. It’s been a very busy week.”

“He has not told me he is going to City.”

Its from United team talk, however rumour is that I'm Eric's agents are hanging back waiting for a bid from the rags.

Spurred on no doubt by the possibility of more money based upon the 'Sanchez Negotiating Model'

Didn't he get cold feet the last time we were in the market for him?

This guy's attitude is making me uneasy about the whole situation. It doesn't sound as if his heart is in it. Looking at his body-language from last night's footage, it was if he was waiting for his own execution.

No. The 'sleepless nights' reference sounds like someone who is having second thoughts.

Seen him play several times for NYCFC - busy midfielder with long flowing locks (well he did at the time). Decent enough but this would be a surprise if he is to fit into Pep’s plans

His name is like something you'd find in a Scandinavian sound recording session.

He's American, so he has to be mint. KDB will have to fight for his place.

It seems that he isn’t only going to be using the CFA facilities whilst he awaits a move elsewhere. Don’t think he isn’t going to join the City squad.
