There should be some hold over the hacks that basically make sh*t up during the transfer window based on what some idiot loosely connected with a cousin who works in the laundry room at the Emirates (or wherever) mentions to a mate down the pub whose friend is related to the journo's sister's boyfriend.

Pipe dream I know but the accuracy level of output from some media companies is woeful - barely scrapping double figures at times.

The hack didn't make this one up, this was briefed to him by Arsenal to cause trouble

I rest my case m'lud. Their lack of accountability drives me batty

In a similar vein I heard one of the talking heads on Sunday Supplement this morning expressing sympathy for Arsenal saying that City were at fault for not making an offer earlier in the window and so leaving them Sooooooo little time to get the Lamar replacement deal sorted. I think the reality is that Wenger and Arsenal rebuffed early enquires for Sanchez (they weren't going to sell) and only entertained an offer on Tues 29th August but this seemed not to be relevant to this individual (name escapes me)

I think the real story of this window has been a massive power change away from Spain. Barca tried to recruit top talent and failed and Messi has not signed a new deal. The Lady Boy was offered to Stretford and Bale also, allegedly, if a certain Monaco 18yr old player now on loan at PSG would go to Madrid. I think the writing is on the wall for the Spanish two to dominate unless they can find more money to compete.

^This Fail article speculates as to why the young lad chose Paris, instead of us, or Madrid.

Interesting about the power appearing to be slipping away from Spains big two - who will fill the vacuum, is it the turn of PSG/France and will there be more countries owning clubs and is this a factor?

I've lost count of the number of times I've read about Chelsea being turned down by players, at least that doesn't appear to be happening to us. We had all Summer to bring in a centre half and yet everything happened/fell apart at the last minute - re Sanchez probably Arsenals' fault as having said he was not going anywhere they should have put a block on any calls from Trixi and Susannah.

But it could all have been so different - Mangala to Palace, Evans and Sanchez to us, Lemar to Arsenal and Bale and Ronaldo to the rags...

I remember when Sparky was gaffa he said along the lines that the big clubs have the best strikers and when you look at the front three in recent times at Barca and Madrid it is the prime reason for that recent domination. If the rest of the team is good enough to allow a proper front three, then this is the way to win the CL based on history. Money buys the best, so PSG should be able to spend time in the sun over the next few seasons. We should be able to join them as well, if we can keep and improve our squad.

And crossing our fingers that our players heads aren't turned by any of Europe's top clubs bidding for them after our window closes.

The PL shooting themselves in the foot. As pointed put in the other thread, it won't work unless it's Europe-wide.
I can just see the wailing and gnashing of teeth when our windows shuts and European clubs come in for PL players and clubs won't be able to replace them.

On the plus side that would give PL clubs the perfect 'excuse' i.e. can't replace him so won't sell.

Be good if the transfer window shut before the season got underway.

Mixed feelings about this. On the one hand closing the window may allow squads to be settled when the season commences.......but it is all very well believing that clubs/manager's can refuse to sell to European rivals but we all know that this runs the risk of creating a disaffected player who sees his big chance of a move abroad being scuppered and then generating disharmony within the rest of the players. Coutinho's 're-entry' into Liverpool may offer an example this season. I guess if he gets his focus back & does the business for them fair enough........but as we all know if you don't bring your 'A' game to each and every PL fixture you will be found out.

Tebas' motives are undoubtedly fuelled now by a genuine fear and realisation that Barca and RM are in grave danger of being less attractive to top, top (TM Jermaine Jenas) players. The lose of Neymar was a severe blow but he knew that if he was ever going to shine in his own right he had to move out of Messi's shadow.

The likes of Tebas already mouthing off about our excessive spending, so what happens? We shoot ourselves in the foot with this. Now if we're in a battle for a player with (say) Madrid, we'll need to 'blow them out of the water' before our window shuts, otherwise they'll have 3 weeks of unfettered negotiation with us unable to do anything. It's also likely to see more 'buy out' clauses being triggered as a way of ensuring we don't lose out. Madness, madness, they call it madness

Of course once the Academy starts to produce players good enough for the 'group' then this will cease to be a problem!

When the dippers can snub a mega fee for a so so winger you know the power balance is changing for the good. The Royals and Barca are used to getting the best players at a discount because of their history and prestige, well no more, and good for the game I say.

Laugh of the week must be David Silva to Fenebaché - been bubbling by the minor press for a few days but no-one is taking it on here which surprised me the the rag loving Mirror didn't splash it all over.
