The language is interesting - it seems that they are "considering asking the Professional Football League and FIFA to institute disciplinary proceedings"........in the meantime reports have emerged of them rejecting a City bid of £44.5m for Mandy.....

.....one could almost see this as a negotiating tactic.....

"Monaco consider taking action against “major” European clubs for speaking with Kylian Mbappe"

According to Sky it's us and PSG, of course it is Sky, sure who else could it possibly be?

....and the Telegraph takes it to another level in stirring the sh*t

Bet they didn't make too much of a fuss when Liverpool were accused of tapping up van Djik. But it was Ok because they apologised.

Seems like the French side are sending up smoke but it remains to be seen whether there is genuinely any fire

I think it is a sort of blackmail where City will now pay OTT for Mendy, but City claim they are innocent and from their statement it does not mention City or PSG, but if AS Monaco make the allegation and it is found to be untrue about City then there should be consequences for the accusing Club.

Too many times City are branded as bad guys and surely the Club has to defend themselves

The wording is such that it is basically a publicised threat and lacking in any evidence. It is intended - IMO - as pressure in the Mendy negotiations emboldened by the fee paid for Walker and, I suggest, the fuss made by the media in making such a big thing out of it. Our owners detest bad publicity and will want this to go away.

You are right Buzz - Monaco need to be challenged as this could amount to libel (they are questioning club's reputations) and the defence that they have not named the clubs won't wash as the names have clearly been leaked. Media reports on the radio were couched in terms of "we understand one of the club's to be Manchester City" and so that can only have come from someone at Monaco. We have been very, very passive in the face of the endless campaign to smear Manchester City ranging from the anti-doping penalties last season through to the FFP debacle.

Not necessarily a leak Skoorb, could just as easily be guesswork/shit-stirring hidden behind that favourite go to media line 'according to a source'.

I saw a tweet from Simon Stone of the BBC that said we enjoy a good relationship with Monaco and as far as he was aware that hasn't changed, if that's true then that would add further weight to my suspicion that City's name is just being attached to this because well we're the panto villian.

Fair play. We are everyone's favourite whipping boy it seems for all that is ill with football.

Is it just me or did Liverpool get a really, really easy ride over a very clear breach regarding van Djik? Just seems to me that it was waved off by the authorities.

Apparently saying sorry is good enough for the FA. Interesting precedent there.

We can't win here though, can we? Monaco haven't named us, so why would we respond to rumour? Yes, it would put it to bed this time, but next time there is an unfounded rumour (and there will be a next time) we will be expected to respond to that too. So we end up having to quash every single rumour that these shit stirring **nts come up with, because if we don't, that silence will be taken as 'proof' of our guilt.
I haven't had chance to catch up on this yet today, but from what I read yesterday it was only Bryan Swanson at Sky who was saying it was us, and everyone else just reported that. We all know how good Sky 'sources' are

So are we just assuming that Monaco mean us - or believing a solitary strand of the media (Sky)?

Haven't Arsenal been sniffing around M'Bappe - maybe it's them?

The source of City being 'identified' as the only English club was never revealed.

Now that Monaco have our money one wonders whether they will make good on their threat

I don't think so Skoorb, purely blackmail re Mendy and Sky said it was us, but the lad wants Real Madrid and I don't want him if his ultimate goal is RM.

I just recall Robinho, it was plain he just didn't want to be here, I don't want us to spend a shed load of cash for a player who has had one good season.

Fair theory Buzz, here's another one. If it was us that Monaco are pissed off for tapping up Mbappe wouldn't they just have told us to do one when it came to negotiating over Mendy?

They didn't want to sell, they only signed him last summer, it was always going to take an absurd fee to convince them to sell.

Who knows? It's all guesswork.
