Presumably linked with the CFG move to add Girona to their portfolio of football clubs across the world, Pep Guardiola faces taking several of his squad to Spain just days after the opening fixture of the Premier League season.

City are scheduled to play a friendly at the 9,286 capacity Estadi Montilivi on August 15 - in between their away game against newly promoted Brighton and their first home match of the campaign against Everton on Aug 19th. Perhaps a chance for some of the fringe players and youngsters to get some game time but given that Pep struggled to find sufficient time with his players on the training ground due to European commitments etc last season this seems a curious decision.......but probably nothing that he had a say in.

Views?

Good idea to get some more game time or bad idea to be jetting off risking injury once the league season is under way and with many, many more games to come?

A good opportunity for Bernardo, Mendy, Bravo and Alexis *cough* to get minutes into their legs. May even see Gundogan too, fingers crossed.

Considering I've been moaning non-stop about being undercooked with just four pre-season games, I suppose I have to agree with this. It's the timing that bothers me.

From the OS - the trip is being treated as a training camp

Pep Guardiola will take advantage of a free midweek at the start of the season to take his squad for a four-day camp the day after the Premier League season opener at Brighton. The camp gives the City boss a chance to work with the full squad, after missing some of his players during the pre-season preparations in America.

During the trip, City will play a friendly match against Girona at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, a game which will be the Catalan side’s final run-out before their historic debut in La Liga.

Txiki Begiristain, Director of Football, said: “This trip is a great opportunity for Pep to work with his full squad in an intensive training camp. We have had some players away on international duty this summer, which means Pep hasn’t had the chance to work for long with the whole squad.

“The game itself promises to be a fantastic spectacle, as Girona finalise their own preparations for their debut campaign in La Liga.”

The game will take place on Tuesday 15th August at 6.30pm (local time). Ticket information will be released on Tuesday 1st August. at 9am right here on mancity.com.

.....although it fails to explai why the whole squad couldn't actually get together and work with Pep at their purpose built, state of the art, ultra-modern training facility.......in Manchester.
