Anyone explain how we copped 4 bookings to WBA's single yellow card?

Just seen the highlights and we rode our luck at times but we also played some outstanding stuff. Pulis’s knuckle-drag Gees had their chances for sure.

2 minutes 28 seconds, 54 passes before Sane slammed in the opener & his winner was brilliant. Gundogan is a superb player and I only hope Jacob’s outrageous and utterly spiteful challenge doesn’t set him back.

Just a reminder that this game was #300 for Yaya, in my view one of our all time greats, as opposed to his nob head of an agent.

Delph for a foul on Nyom right decision, his only foul - one foul
Danilo foul on Phillips took him out no complaint.- one foul
Sterling, for arguing about a tackle by a Baggies player Nyom - one foul
Sané kicking the ball away - no fouls.

To be fair, all of our yellows can be justified, well apart maybe from Delph's as he actually won the ball, perhaps went in a bit too strongly.

What irks me is that I counted at least six of theirs that could be justified yellows too yet Jones didn't reach for his pocket.

Yellow for City 1 in 3 fouls

Yellow for WBA 1 in 16 fouls

It's ludicrous.

That ratio says it all and should take some explaining. But we will never get that.

No problem with the cards for City players (per se) but once again it is the inconsistency that gets my goat. The flexible relationship the refs have with dealing with offences and tackles by some clubs against others like City who retain the ball better drives me batty. It's as if the ref says "well, they've had such a hard time trying to get the ball, I have to give them a bit of leeway".

I have mentioned elsewhere about how Taggart in his day would make a fuss over that tackle, it would get the headlines and officials would feel the heat. He did with offsides, everything to get an advantage and get the officials thinking twice.

The fact that the only mention is about Gundogan's injury 'luck' rather than the vindictive nature of such a poor challenge means that there will be no debate in the media. Pulis's team won't be called out for being dirty and are free to continue to do the same week in, week out.

We can complain all we want about the inherent unfairness of the refereeing, but the one consistent in all of this is that this is normal service. We just have to deal with that fact and overcome.
