Congratulations to Kevin De Bruyne who has been named among the contenders for the coveted Ballon D'Or trophy.

The City midfielder proving to be a very important part of Guardiola's squad having had a direct involvement in 15 goals in his past 17 Premier League games, including 3 goals and 12 assists.

He is one six players from the Premier League to be included in the 30 players named in the 30 man 'shortlist'. The others being England's Harry Kane, Sadio Mane, David De Gea and Philippe Coutinho and Eden Hazard.

The 'usual suspects' are all there - Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo - whilst the 'New Kid on the Block' Kylian Mbappe also makes an appearance but there no room for Sergio Aguero. Perhaps the greater surprise was the absence of Marcus Rashnaldo.

Would have expected Rashnaldo to top the list, but why so many nominations, is this just a wank so that agents can extract higher wages for their charges?

Edin has been on fire for Roma so can see why he would be considered, but the exclsuion of Sergio is baffling

Good to see ED10 in the mix.

Did Falcao do enough last term to deserve his nomination?

30 goals in all comps for Monaco last season KCT.

12 goals in 8 league games so far this season.

Captained Monaco to a league title and a Champions League semi final.

Captained Colombia to world cup qualification.

And conspired with Peru players to ensure their game ended in a draw the other night so Colombia would qualify for Wold Cup and Peru would seal their playoff place.

I cannot see beyond the usual suspects. As for Kevin, he may well deserve the award, but will get nowhere near it.

The award is a joke and hard to take seriously. Like most things, is 95% political.
