Pep Guardiola:

"It was so difficult, so complicated to find the space. Sometimes it happens.

"The second half was much, much better. We had chances and we were able to win and we are top of the group. We are happy.

"We respect the competition, we respect Shakhtar and we respect Napoli. We have a lot of games, we will see what team we can play in the final game. Who knows what can happen.

"Today is a special day for all of the club, the academy have worked so hard for the last couple of years and we had Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz on in the end.

"They feel what it means to play in front of these fans. It depends on Phil now - he knows the club, he has to be calm, work every day. He knows that we trust him."

Raheem Sterling:

"They kept really solid, we were slow on the ball. They dug in deep and stayed in the game as long as possible.

"It's always good to score but it's more important to win, even if it's ugly sometimes."

Yaya Toure:

"I have a lot of experience in these type of situations. It was a difficult game, they defended really well. If we score in the first half the game can change."

Lovely pass from Gundogan, and a finish to match from Sterling.

How good does this get?

You're 17, a City fan, about to make your competitive debut. The man you replace is the one who kick started this all off six years ago.

Great to see him come on CITK, shame we couldn't take control of this one early doors to get himself and Diaz more time on the pitch.

As for the man he replaced, sadly he's just becoming a passenger now, I guess at the age he's at the lack of playing time will see him seize up somewhat. Don't like watching players that have contributed so much struggling to keep up, it was the same with Demichelis a couple of years back and Zaba last season. It's a bit like watching a family pet in their last throes, sometimes it's better for all concerned to put them out of their misery.

Edit:for the record, I'm not advocating that we euthanise Yaya.

Without question this will be Yaya's last season, the timing of his departure is the only point.
New York want him in January, I've seen, but I think Pep will keep him until the end of the season.

By the way, KDB picked up that card you mentioned, Dub

Yep, apparently it was a challenge Chopper Harris would've been proud of, according to David Anderson in The M****r.

It will now be interesting to see how we approach the Shakhtar game.

I saw a tweet advocating 11 more or less complete changes from our 'usual' CL line up.
Can completely agree, to use a United *spit* argument, we've earned the right to play who we want, although I wonder if UEFA have the similar weakened line up clause the PL have?

Either way, if we do go down that route, and it pisses off De Laurentis, this will be a case of revenge served cold (in all aspects) won't it?

I wouldn't bring any regular starter on the plane nevermind put them on the pitch.

Some people think that KDB deliberately got a yellow, whilst I am sure he was going to get one, I am also sure that he would not have chosen to do it in front of goal in an ideal place for the oppostion to score, luckily they didn't.

A lot of people expected goals last night, but with so many changes, I am not sure that the side put together last night had ever played as a team together, like the minimum of changes for the other Premier League games and Champions League games, whilst the League cup game against Wolves nearly produced the same result had it not been for a moment of magic and a brilliant pass by The Dog and an even more astute finish by Raheem Sterling.

The City fans just are not that much into the Champions League matches and I can only put that down to the treatment of the Club by UEFA.

Most season ticket holders automatically pay for their tickets for Cup matches and don't get a refund if they don't go, a lot of fans are just willing to write the money off.

I had a laugh to myself last night as BT had Harry Redknapp , along with The Dunney Monster and it was clear that Harry would have preferred to be watch the Tottingham game, Oh how we larffed!!!

PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Tottenham, Besiktas, Real Madrid

Need one or two of those teams topping their groups - English teams coming second might reduce the chance of us getting a heavyweight (PSG, Bayern, Real etc).
