Leicester City v Manchester City - 7.45pm Tues 19th Dec EFL Cup Quarter Final Preview and MDT

Preview

After City's mesmerising run in the Premier League continued at the weekend with a thumping of media darlings Lilywhite Totttenham Hotspurs, Pep takes his energised squad to the home of the 2015/16 Premier League Champions for the League Cup Quarter Final.

Despite some atrocious challenges from the petulant Spurs England Heroes Kane and Alli, hitting the post twice including once from the penalty spot and missing some gilt edged (but sharp) chances, City still managed to slice them apart and put four past Loris. The sweetest of which has to be the sublime Kevin De Bruyne's screamer, struck with all the venom of someone spurred into action after Alli's cowardly attempt to hurt him with a foul which should have seen the over-rated and childish Spurs player taking an early shower. Another 'test' passed and another set of words shoved back down the throats of the sceptics and pundits who were so quick to dismiss Guardiola after his first season in 'the toughest league in the World'.

I expect KDB will get a well deserved rest for this fixture as Pep rings the changes. Perhaps another run out for Foden - after being named the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year the talented player they call the 'Stockport Iniesta' may well be in the mood to show his skills off. An overhaul of the defence plus starts for Toure, Bernardo Silva and the revived Gundogan are on the cards. The latter was beaming from ear to ear after he gave City the lead on Saturday strolling through the Spurs penalty area to nod the ball home. We await news of David Silva's status after he missed Saturday's game for personal reasons - whatever it was we wish him well.

Leicester City came back down to earth with a bump at the King Power last weekend when they got stuffed 0-3 by an improving Crystal Palace. Having won four consecutive games in the league including thumping Southampton 1-4 away from home they must have thought they could relax - after all it was only Palace. Well, that is something about which we only know too well - take your foot off the gas at your peril in the Premier League.

I expect Puel will field a strong side as he seeks to give his players a chance to redeem themselves and progress to the semi finals of a competition they have a decent chance of succeeding in.

Either way City will not give up the competition even though the changes & rotation will give a clear indication of where Pep and the club's priorities lie. Pep knows the value of maintaining a winning mentality but he also knows that some knocks are inevitable given the pressures and demands of a season where you play competitive matches every three days.

Onwards and upwards!

Come On City!!!

I hope he plays Gundogan in the pivot in this one, he needs to be tested in that role just in case, god forbid, we lose Fernandinho for any length of time.

Yaya isn't an able deputy for Fern, so we need a more mobile option there. I'd play Yaya in the DeBruyne role for this one with Foden in Silva's normal berth.

Catch 42 this one. Play a weak team and get beaten and the press will hound us for being arrogant.
Play a strong side and risk injuries. City TV said yesterday that VK was 3 days away from fitness. And Stones not far off either.

I think he will play Sane, the Dog, B Silva Yaya and Sterling supporting Jesus.

I do not want to see Merlin, Fern or Red Kev leave Manchester.

I don't think Pep will make too many changes for this Cup tie. (5) We should expect to win and no doubt our fringe players will try to impress including young Phil F.

I expect three of our EDS to start tonight, similar to someone's post earlier (can't remember who)...

Adarabioyo, Foden and Diaz.

In fact, i've even predicted Phil Foden to score our first goal!!!

A prize is a semi final for the winner - a two legged affair and a final to clog up someone's schedule and what we don't want is to, is lose the Title from this advantageous position, because we know, what will happen if we do.

Spurs. started to kick the shit out of City players with no protection at all, have a free boot at our star players all you'll get is a yellow, I am sure this idea was put into the minds of players by Paul Pogba and Danny Murphy, Whilst Moaning Maureen has put into the mind that it is City that tactically foul and dive and no matter how much you say it wont influence a referee, it does.

I am two minds whether or not I want to win tonight because it adds games to an already heavy schedule, but part of me wants City to win every game and every trophy going, I don't think any other Premier team has had draws like ours ever and certainly not United, but a Wembley Final is potential Silverware ..... a dilemma indeed.

Of course......the ‘ball’ is back.

In the back of my mind I think I have read somewhere that the ball is used not only in the League Cup but in the Championship, so Leicester, technically are in the same boat as us.

Could imagine Sane and Silva B accompanying GJ33 up front with Kipling, Gundogan and the Stockport Iniesta behind them. Ederson in goal to give the defence a sense of security that Bravo cannot. Be nice to see Adarabioyo starting and good news if Stones and VK4 are nearing full fitness.

That'd be a bit unfair on Bravo considering we're still in this competition because of him.

So. Spanish Dave reported as in Valencia with a family situation, Kun rumoured again to be heading for Real, but I am still hoping we will go for it tonight. We’ve shown what we can do here this season already and I will be delighted if there is a repeat. However, I have a gut 2-2 City win on penalties feeling...

The answer is no.

No one went higher than 3.

Big opportunity for Diaz and Foden especially.
