After Moaning Maureen's assertion before the derby that City players 'go over when there is a breath of wind' we have witnessed a number of 'robust' challenges - aka dirty fouls - from Merrs Kane, Alli, Murphy and Puncheon all of which were treated with the utmost leniency by officials. Previously we had Whinging Wenger claiming Sterling was "good at diving" and Sean Dyche's assertion that Bernardo Silva also dived to win a spot kick in the league win over Burnley early in the season.

In the most recent game against Watford, Aguero was fouled as he went to retrieve the ball inside the oppositiona penalty area with replays clearly showing the Hornet defender got none of the ball and all of Sergio Aguero's ankle. However Lee Mason and his assistant chose not to award a spot kick..........

This set me thinking ..........as a result of the seeds of doubt sown by other I wonder whether Manchester City FC will actually be awarded another penalty in domestic games during the remainder of this season?

If it’s a penalty then of course we will get one.

No Maureen's poison is already in the Referees minds as he intended it to be.

I think your giving Mourinho too much credit and the referees not enough.

I’d like to think the referees/officials consciously discount his words - they know his game and will say (were they to be asked) that of course they pay no attention to his Machiavellian BS......

But ..........his work is done. All he wanted to do was sow a seed of doubt........and now, as I see it, with any foul committed on our players that seed will sprout in their subconscious and they will hesitate, just a fraction.......and that will be enough to cause them to err away from giving a ‘soft’ free kick or penalty. It will take the sort of challenge Dier committed to take out De Bruyne against Spurs to get a significant decision. Lee Mason’s reaction to Jesus when Townsend caused his MCL injury in the Palace game fitted this profile for me. He did not believe Jesus was injured at all as presumably he thought he had “gone down with a breath of wind”.........

I agree , it is like telling a Jury to ignore evidence presented because it is inadmissible, it is impossible and the more you try to ignore the more you find yourself believing it even if it is completely false, we just have to work round these things and hope that when it comes to the post match debrief that referees must do, that they are asked to explain why they made certain decisions.

but not holding my breath on that one.

It’s like saying spot someone “Whatever you do, do NOT think about an elephant”........

.......and everyone has this image of an elephant straightaway.

Snide, conniving git

When he talked about the antics on the touchline, quite a few thought it was Pep, and I think Maureen meant it that way but some bright spark said to Conte that he meant him and off we go, for the little man lol

Could be - beware of the Law of Unintended Consequences

Mind you I have an alternate theory that he has twigged that trying to goad Pep no longer works and also draws attention to the size of the gap in points and the gulf in the quality of football and so he has turned his beady little eyes on his nearest rivals for runners up spot in the hope of distracting Conte, Chelsea and the media.

Sean Custis from The Sun seems to have fallen into the same old trap judging by yesterday's Sunday Supplement
