I think Liverpool were lucky that they caught us on some bad defensive errors and capitalised on them, Pep has obviously read the riot act and no of that tonight.

Take off Otta and put on B Silva. Fern a beast in the centre.

Simple equation this.

Batter these and we crush hopes that have been raised elsewhere all week...

Patience and persistence may well still be the name of the game when we come back out - don’t think Rafa will expose their soft underbelly immediately. They will stick with Plan A and keep it to a single goal deficit..........and only really try for a equaliser if it remains 1-0 entering the last quarter.

Second City goal would trash that plan

HT 1-0

City have lierally dominated this match with the odd foray by Newcastle whose plan is to keep it down to a minimum and try ad get a counterattack.

City have been wayward in some passes and it was some time before we had a shot on target, KDB could not get his radar working until late in the half when planting one on Sergio's quiff and he will take it, Kev wont mind .

In between there has been some good football by both sides, with City literally camped an the area of Newcastle and some brilliant moved either saved or turned away for corners, which have been defended well by a well marshalled Toons back 8 as 4 times they caught City offside and on one of these occasions the Beat the Clock members who had Sterling were jumping for joy, but only for seconds as the ass Ref was waving he accoutrements

Can City open the GD in the second half, it depends on is Newcastle have any cajoles

This will come as a blow to the rest of the Premier hopefuls who were hoping that Liverpool had demoralised us

Zincs link up play with Marlin is outstanding. Don't need to strengthen that position.

Newcastle ended that half clinging on, inexplicably only one nil down as we saw at Christmas? Not for me. We didn’t work their keeper til the half hour - do so and we are out of sight. Offside line not read well enough to that point. Missing Jesus’s runs. The passing mojo is back. Spanish Dave so crucial to us as the Candlefield defeat showed. I am still looking at us and calling for more centre forward options. Zinchenko having a blinder in another key area. Fully expect us to kick on now. Blitz them City.

Shteve McClaren

Ex-England manager on BBC Radio 5 live

It's been fantastic to watch. Newcastle started well but then City took total control with some amazing combination football. David Silva's return on the left hand side has added another dimension to their play and he has been orchestrating most of their good work. They were banging and banging at the door and finally got their reward.

Newcastle will be so pleased to go in only one goal down. What they can do about the situation I don't know. Benitez was taking lots of notes during the first half - he might need a book to sort this out.

KDB has agreed his new contract and should sign it soon and stay with the blues for 6 years, hopefully he too like Ramos will have a £400m buy out clause
