Wicker Man or Happy Feet

Will Manchester City's return to Europe be a horror show or will it be a celebratory relief with a job well done.

Vital Quotes:

Mark Hughes on the game: It is one of those games where the opposition have nothing to lose,' he said as he approached his first game in charge.

'We have approached it in a professional manner. It is part of our pre-season but it has consequences for the rest of the campaign. We have travelled with a strong team and the right attitude.

'EB/Streymur have played a lot of games and will be match fit, they also have a decent home record but this, like the ones we had with Blackburn at this stage last season, is one of those games where if you played them 10 times we would win nine of them.

'We have to make sure that this is the one game where we will not be embarrassed. We don't anticipate that will be the case. We have big players and big athletes and expect to win.'

EB/Streymur Team News:

As very little is known of this team; I will just say that there is no news that any of their better players are out.

Player to watch: Unknown

The Flock of Sheep on the side of the Hill!!!

Manchester City FC Team News:

Mark Hughes taking a strong squad across the north sea to the Faroe Islands with only really the late arrivals at pre-season training being excluded and

Player to watch: Martin Petrov

The magic left winger to torment the viking defence.

Match Facts & Stats

Never played them - so no previous stats.

Ref Watch:

Match Prediction:

City to be given a decent match; but their quality will tell as they aim to impress the new gaffer. EB/Streymur 0 - 2 MCFC.

Next Fixtures:

Hamburg away in a pre-season friendly on Saturday 26th July at 3:30pm kick off.

Great score prediction Gav, hope you had a correct score bet!
Ghost of 76
Nice one Mr Cooper. Perhaps you should start a forum score prediction league??
Tudor
Didn't see the game but I would imagine it was the same old City playing 4-5-1 creating loads of chances and no striker to put them away OH DEAR !!!

Ultimately it has to be a job well done because we came away with a result! Nothing to get too excited about admittedly, but it was a decent work-out in a match that wasn't a meaningless friendly.

No Alphie, he played 442 with jo and vassell up front. It was obvious that we very much short of match practice. Petrov and Ireland played the wings, Johnson and Hamann in the centre, with Didi doing the defensive role. EB/Streymor not in our league but made a decent effort at it, but we hardly had to stretch it and it seemed more like a friendly than a match for a place in the competition proper. Sloppy passing from us and poor shooting was the reason for the 2 nil score line, but both goals were good ones. although I think Hamanns was a hopeful poke that went in, but looked spectacular. Evans took the eye when he came on late for Jo and Ireland and Johnson played well as did Petrov, but He could have done better when given loads of room for the opposition defense. Hart looked very shaky for what he was called onto do, coming to soon for a ball and missing, punching when he should catch and not coming when he should have done. Gelson came on late for Hamann, but did not do a lot mainly got inthe way of Johnson, running round like a schoolboy in his first match. All in all it was a win, but the score line could have been a lot more if City felt they needed it, but were happy to settle with what they had. Jo played well in his new team, needs time to gel with a partner. I am sure they will play a lot sharper in the replay. The ref was a woman, did a good job and the guys seemed to repond to her better than a bloke, she shouts a lot, but I wouldn't have kicker her out of bed.

Buzz Lightyear
Would like to see Bianchi partner Jo in the next match.
alphieblues
Me too alphie, but not on bench, wonder if he was injured, he had castillo on bench, thought he had gone back after his loan deal.
Buzz Lightyear
so whats going to happen to benjani now he looks like he is just going to be left to rot now
dunne deal
I doubt it! Hopefully we are in for a long season, in which case we'll need strength in depth.
oliverblue
I believe Castillo's loan is until the end of the year.
