City of Manchester Stadium
Tueday 25th September 2007
City play their second round of a league cup run for the first time in three years after sorry defeats away to Doncaster and Chesterfield.
Joe Hart talks about the impending cup tie: In a cup competition, everything goes out of the window. It does not matter who you play, you could be playing Arsenal or Norwich but they can perform on the day. It`s down to us to be professional and perform the best we can to get a result."
He then goes on to talk about City's start to the season: "To start like we have means that everyone`s confident and happy, the players that were brought in are exciting, everyone`s getting to know each other and it`s an exciting place to be at the moment. Things are definitely on the up.'
Sven is likely to make a few changes with Joe Hart, Rolando Bianchi, Geovanni, Gelson Fernandes and Samaras all playing a part in the game with Hamann, Petrov, Elano and Mpenza definitely rested.
He's a little pocket book of Brazilian magic that will cause Norwich a lot of problems.
Norwich are without skipper Jason Shackell and midfielder Julien Brellier, who were both sent off in the Canaries' defeat by Wolves on Saturday.
Dion Dublin is still suspended and defender Adam Drury is a major doubt after pulling out of the Wolves game with a recurrence of his back injury.
Dazza returns to his old club where I am sure his pace will cause City's back line a few problems.
This is Norwich's second visit to the City of Manchester stadium, where they frustrated City and got a Damien Francis equalizer directly after half time after Willo Flood had put City up in the first half. The away fixture at Carrow Road will always be remembered for Delia Smith's drunken rant at half time when City had come back from two nil down and Delia asking the fans, ' let's be havin' ya'.
City have to go back to the 2000/1 season when we last had a decent run in this competition when we were beaten in the quarter finals by Ipswich from an extra time Winner from Mark Venus after Shaun Goater had put City in front and Matt Holland had equalized.
A M MARRINER - This is his seventh match of the season averaging just over three yellows per game but he has kept his red card in his pocket. His last game refereeing City was away to Bolton, ending nil nil with Barton and Dabo being booked.
Home win: City just too good for the championship side, even with a few changes. City 3 - 0 Norwich.
City v Newcastle Sat 29th September 12:45pm kick off on Sky.
