Manchester City vs. Norwich City

City of Manchester Stadium

Tueday 25th September 2007

7:45pm

MCFC v Norwich City FC

City play their second round of a league cup run for the first time in three years after sorry defeats away to Doncaster and Chesterfield.

Joe Hart on City

Joe Hart talks about the impending cup tie: In a cup competition, everything goes out of the window. It does not matter who you play, you could be playing Arsenal or Norwich but they can perform on the day. It`s down to us to be professional and perform the best we can to get a result."

He then goes on to talk about City's start to the season: "To start like we have means that everyone`s confident and happy, the players that were brought in are exciting, everyone`s getting to know each other and it`s an exciting place to be at the moment. Things are definitely on the up.'

Manchester City Team News:

Sven is likely to make a few changes with Joe Hart, Rolando Bianchi, Geovanni, Gelson Fernandes and Samaras all playing a part in the game with Hamann, Petrov, Elano and Mpenza definitely rested.

Player to watch: Geovanni

He's a little pocket book of Brazilian magic that will cause Norwich a lot of problems.

Norwich City Team News:

Norwich are without skipper Jason Shackell and midfielder Julien Brellier, who were both sent off in the Canaries' defeat by Wolves on Saturday.

Dion Dublin is still suspended and defender Adam Drury is a major doubt after pulling out of the Wolves game with a recurrence of his back injury.

Player to watch: Darren Huckerby

Dazza returns to his old club where I am sure his pace will cause City's back line a few problems.

Match Facts & Stats

This is Norwich's second visit to the City of Manchester stadium, where they frustrated City and got a Damien Francis equalizer directly after half time after Willo Flood had put City up in the first half. The away fixture at Carrow Road will always be remembered for Delia Smith's drunken rant at half time when City had come back from two nil down and Delia asking the fans, ' let's be havin' ya'.

City have to go back to the 2000/1 season when we last had a decent run in this competition when we were beaten in the quarter finals by Ipswich from an extra time Winner from Mark Venus after Shaun Goater had put City in front and Matt Holland had equalized.

Ref Watch:

A M MARRINER - This is his seventh match of the season averaging just over three yellows per game but he has kept his red card in his pocket. His last game refereeing City was away to Bolton, ending nil nil with Barton and Dabo being booked.

Match Prediction:

Home win: City just too good for the championship side, even with a few changes. City 3 - 0 Norwich.

Svennis says he won't play two up front until he feels team have a good understanding of each other's play. Caution is the watchword, so fair enough but I would go 4-4-2 tonight and take no prisoners. We need to get used to scoring more goals, no matter who the opposition is and I want the Typical City trademark well and truly finished with!!!

I'm afraid it was back to square one tonight playing the game at their pace instead of upping the tempo. Ah well in the end a good result, it is one way would have lost last year.

After keeping an eye on the Skysports ticker and seeing "Samaras 90" pop up I had to double check it...and then triple check it! Agree with alphie, last year this game, or even Bristol before it could have been a stumbling block leaving us to wonder what happened. In other news Miller bags two for WBA in a losing cause, but great to see him taking his chance with playing time and making the best of it. Seems a real player in the making.

i no i was in shock Samaras scored ha ha. Well hopefully he can do something like that in the premiership now cos i dnt think we have a goalscorer yet. Goals seem to be coming from every position which is not a bad thibg but we do need a prober goal scorer

Hopefully that goal by Gerogio will kickstart his season, although he didn't have a great game at least the one chance that came his way he put away in sublime fashion.

One things for sure Blues, if we are drawn against Prem oppoistion in the next round, wholesale changes will not be an option. We got away with it, just!

JB, with Svens luck we may not meet any opposition until semis, and every team then plays their first team.

Any takers for changes against The Barcodes? Ireland out, for example?

CC Just poor defending against Fulham, but when we went 3 -2 up we should have shut up shop, their third was schoolboy error stuff, with half our team up field and no-one tracking back. JB agree with you Irelands mind on other things, don't know why he does not play geovanni with Elano, this would take pressure of Elano, but it maybe that Svennis is missing Bakke?

Wouldn't mind seeing the following 4-4-2 line-up against the Barcodes : Hart - back four- Corluka Onuoha Dunne Garrido- midfield- Richards Johnson Hamaan Elano- strikers Mpenza Bianchi. with Isaaksson, Petrov, Geovanni, Sun, Ball making up the bench.
