Vincent started life out as a midfielder and switched to his international position of centre-half with complete and confident composure. However, he is equally at home as a central or defensive midfielder in front of the centre backs.

His comfort in two positions proved to be a massive bonus to City meaning he could cover various positions (August 2008/09) when City's squad was suffering from various injuries. He himself played through the cortisoned pain barrier for Mark Hughes repeatedly.

His performances earned him respect from Roberto Mancini enough to make him a regular starter and key to the Italian bringing City's defence under control.

You cannot select a better defender in your back four than Vincent. Never afraid to battle to get the ball away. Not only is Kompany multilingual but he has proved to be multitalented.

Kompany came to City under Mark Hughes as the Welshman's third signing and made a huge and impressive debut in our victory of 3 -0 over West Ham United in August 2008.

He hasn't looked back.
